what's better? 2 old Cab SB kites or 1 new one?

Hi Folks, which is better? 2 old kites or 1 new kite? If you could only afford one or the other. Would you do bigger quiver or better kite? Yes, newer kites often have more range ... but for any given windspeed there is a correct size, right?

I'm trying to decide whether to keep 2x 2011 Cabrinha Switchblades (6m + 8m) or turn them over for 1x 2018 Cabrinha Switchblade 7m.

If there’s nothing wrong with them I would ride them until they fall apart while saving up for more gear when the time comes. Is there a practical reason as well? Don’t feel like lugging around two kites when a newer 7m would do the job if two old kites? 2011 was before I started kiting but loved the few times I tried the 2014 SB. Great kite. From those I know and speak to, newer Cabrinha kites and bars aren’t as loved as they used to be.

Probably good advice. Wondering if 1x new (7m) can cover range of 2x old (6m+8m). Issue is limited funds. Also bulk for air travel.

For the sizes and years you have posted, get the new kite. It is the best choice without any reservation.

Worth it because you have to carry less gear, and you are less likely to have a bladder blowout which will end your whole session anyway. On top of that, the new kite will perform exquisitely compared to those old kites.

Sun is obviously right that you would have a completely different experience with the range and flight characteristics from a kite that’s gone through more than half a dozen iterations since 2011. If you don’t have any other pressing things on your wish list then do it. Convenience of having one instead of two is a perfectly good reason of course. If you’re not feeling super loyal to Cabrinha I would try out some other options. I ride Core but Eleveight is a damn good option and has me very tempted. Eleveight RS is way ahead of the current SB in my view. Right up there with Rebel, XR and Edge in terms of all-round kites. Also cheaper than all the aforementioned.

I would say the top end of the newer switchblade (2016+) is better than older one especially 2011.
I would upgrade they are much better than the old 2011. Top end on my 8 meter is upper twenties gusting to mid thirties.i am85kg.

One new one, without a doubt.

Great insights everyone, thanks a ton! Especially your points about top end, travel and bladder. Just grabbed a 2017 7m SB to take the place the 2011 6m+8m ... now to replenish the family bank account before my wife notices :nono: Anyone need cheap 4m 6m 8m SBs and 2017 Cab bars? :D http://kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2399884

I just got 2 new 2018 sb 9 and 11, replacing 2012’s, and really liked them. Rode the 9 almost every day. I would go for a new kite.

If you wait a month or two, next model year will be out, and you can a new 2018 at a discount, or get the newest model.

If you ask nicely they'll offer discounts on 2018 gear now. www.kite-line.com did for me, anyway.
