Zanzibar Knots differences

Postby BridleJumper » Mon Jul 09, 2018 9:05 am

Hello,

beginning of august i will travel to Zanzibar and im really looking forward to it!

But im not sure which kites to take with me (my bag will handle 2 kites max) because websites say wind will be arround 15-18 knots but if i take a look at apps line wind and windfinder there are arrounf 11-12 knots.

This is quite important because it will changes my kites from 9 + 13,5 to 13,5 + 17.
My weight: 84 kg

Can some body give me an advice how much knots are at zanzibar or should i just trust the apps or the websites?

Best regards from germany

Leon

Only been there in January - so I´m not sure if the wind is the same in August (I believe it is weaker in August, but I might be wrong).

I was there for about a month. Never used anything smaller than a 12m. Probably 50/50 between 12 and 17. I like riding with a bit of power though and I am a bit heavier than you at around 100kg. Only for about 20-30 mins did I miss having a smaller kite.

So for me that would be 13.5 and 17m. My guess at 84kg is that you will be on the 13.5 80-90% of the time anyway (not that I´m an expert on the wind having been there once, but it sounded like the strength of the wind was quite stable - and the schools generally have fairly large kites). Will you miss the 9 more if it really gets windy for a day or two compared to using the 17 when the wind is really weak?

Any specific reason for having 9, 13.5 and 17? Seems like a very big gap between 9 and 13.5.
