I haven't been to Phuket, bit several times to Hua Hin.
I also know Pranburri.

Pranburri is nice green and quiet. Lacks beach on high tide, some nice flat areas on low tide, but not much to do. Therefore definitely go to Hua Hin and go sometimes to Pranburri for kiting.

His Hin beach is big with several kite centers. You won't be alone and meet many nice people.

Good food and some nightlife around.

I assume Phuket is much nicer than Hua Hin from an optical point of view.

Make sure to rent a scooter while you are there...they are cheap and you are free to move around.

February is also a good month with SE winds.

Be prepared that the NE wind can be cold...then you need a wetsuit or shorty. Air can drop to 15C.

Also be warned, there are bad jellyfishes...so full body protection is advised. But you can buy all in the local shops.

Hello Anna,
November - June: Hua Hin or Paknam Pran. Easterlies from North sector at the beginning of the dry season to South sector later on.
At high tide, go to Paknam Squid beach. Later in the season Feb onwards, high tide isn't an issue.
As a matter of fact, the whole coast from Cha Am down al the way to Chumphon and beyond is great and worth the visit.

Can do in Phuket Friendship Beach in Chalong Bay (near Rawai), but hardly any beach at high tide, no water at low tide and always cramped.
Bars in Rawai and Chalong, but not on the beach.

June - September: Phuket Nai Yang near the airport, which is the best for waves in Thailand, but Westerly monsoon season bring spells of rain. If the wind is too much from the South, it's gusty, so move to beautiful Nai Harn South of the Island.

Toby is right about the nasty jellyfish at times, both in Phuket and Hua Hin.

A small note I wrote about the seasons in SE Asia ten years ago.

Enjoy your stay in the land of smiles. :wink2:

Hey guys,

I need an advice regarding two kite spots in Thailand - Hua Hin vs Rawai (Phuket).

The thing is, I am going to move for a couple of months (most probably 6 to 8 months) to one of these places, but I have to decide to which one. I have read a lot of posts comparing both places, but I still feel a bit lost. So far I have come across the information that Hua Hin is less touristic and cheaper compared to Phuket, but on the other hand Phuket has more beautiful beaches and it is easy / fast to access them.
However, from some photos and videos I have an impression that Phuket (I would be going to Rawai or Friendship beach which is at the south end of Phuket) is more more chill and beach lifestyle, with nice bars just by the beach, but the beach at Hua Hin seems surrounded by rather big hotels.

I have not found a good comparison regarding kiteboarding conditions, but seems that in Phuket most popular kites are bigger ones, for example 14 m2.

Do you have any experience with these locations?
Which one would you suggest for a "longer"' trip?

Thanks in advance! :)

Anna

I Will go to Thailand in december. 12dec-3jan. Is hua hin good option? Or Phuket?
It depends on what you would like besides kite ))) I always choose Phuket. When I go to Thailand with my friends we rent property in Phuket https://tranio.com/rent/thailand/phuket/, enjoy kiting and when it's evening/night time we like to go to Patong and party :D Plus in my opinion Phuket is more developed :thumb:
