I don't like launching depowered, I feel I have much less control as the steering lines are saggy.

Just my opinion but if you have to launch a kite fully de powered
There is something wrong with
The kite
The kite size or
You.
All of them can be adjusted to work better.

IMO Fully depowered kite can be powered by bar movement. If not, and lines are still lose when the bar is in full power position, trimming is required.

For example...bar trow 16-17 "...trimmed fully 6"....total 22-23 inches
For Toby using long 32 meter lines that will create a "reasonable sag" on the back lines which makes sense.... while using a perfectly tuned bar
As the lines length becomes shorter and shorter...27...24...22...20...18 meters... of course less trim is needed proportionally.. to achieve sensible slacking of steering lines
Sometime none at all is needed as the 16-17" bar trow is sufficient
So i'd suggest to test half way trimmed in 25+ knots with medium 24...22 meter line length
Plus... set half way it becomes easier to make any trimming changes right after you launch to make your way to the water safely

Exactly , thats what i did. I tested launching just a just bit depowered (nearly fully powered) that second attempt and the kite flew perfectly. Then in the session had to trim more and also everything was perfect. On my previous kites never happened this when launching depowered. So my conclusion is some kites are ok to launch depowered and some no. (always talking in strong wind conditions)
I can see totally oposite opinions above!

Alfredo, I don’t see any opposing opinions. Everyone is telling you the same thing. You need enough power in the kite to be able to steer it. If that’s not true something is wrong and you need to figure out what.
If you haven’t figured it out, ignore foilholio, he’s launching a foil kite.
Finally, if your kite is inverting, it is way under inflated, this is dangerous in high winds. Get a decent pump, and unless you are really strong, pump the kite hard, till it pings when you flick it with a finger, and is hard to fold.
