Moses Onda 633 vs Liquid Force Impulse foil

Postby TomW » Sun Sep 16, 2018 8:14 pm

Had a chance today to try my friends Lf Impulse on the new 2019 galaxy 4-6 board.
I'm riding a 120cm custom pocket with 2016 93cm fluente mast and 2018 Moses Onda 633.

I was quite surprised. The Impulse is hugely more pitch stable, but also yaw and roll. It turns pretty good but needs more input. Some of it could be the board. I felt like I could have taken a nap on it while flying.

The Onda is in another category it's so different. My friend was blown away by how quick and loose it was compared to The Impulse. My impression is that the Impulse would be a great learner foil, but I'd get bored with it really fast.

I find it really interesting to hear about what foils everyone likes to ride. Can’t wait to see where the sport will be in 15 years.

Do you know what length the mast was and if the stabilizer was mounted in the forward location?

I’m a little over 2 years into to foiling and over 17 years kiting. I started foiling on a Zeeko Black and White then switched over to the Caver wing. I wanted better carving so I switched to the Zeeko Spitfire with standard and XLW wings. I felt like I was not progressing at fast as I wanted so I got the Cloud 9 S24 foil. It is basically the same as the Liquid Force Impulse except it has a 68 cm mast. I always ride with the stabilizer in the forward location and with the 68 cm mast.

I’m absolutely loving my Cloud 9. I’m now riding as well in switch stance I was in regular stance, making 100% of my flying foot switches, and just got my heel side 360’s down. But most of all I love how hard I can push this foil when carving on a wave.

I felt like it was a bit slow when I first got it but I feel like the more I ride it the more I learn how to push it. After spending the summer on it I feel like it is plenty fast for me.

Don't know where stab was. But it was standard mast, like 90-95cm .
My friend said he felt Moses was faster and was way more agile.

It's not personal bias.
The Moses is like another category of agility. Huge difference.
Like a mini Cooper and a full size sedan difference.

The LF impulse is super stable. The Moses requires more skill. But I came from 550-590 wing progression ( difficult to easier). The wrong way.
So I thought Moses onda was very very easy. The LF is as big a step to Onda 633 as from the 550 to 633( onda) !

Question:

Do the Impulse wings fit on the original alloy fuselage of the LF foil fish ?
A friend of mine is thinking of this upgrade.

I have about 200 hours on the LF impulse with a 30inch mast, and about 50 hours on a Onda 633 with the 71cm mast(28inch)... I find them very similar, maybe a bit more stable for the LF Impulse... but to my surprise, I always get better top speed with the Impulse than the Onda 633... It may be because I have more hours on the Impulse. I also have an intermediate foil wings and a racing foil(spotz3)... the foil I enjoy the most is the impulse... It all depends on what you want to do... my friend is 100% racing foil and racing kite foil... I prefer "Ballet" foiling, turning in all directions with jibes and duck tacks and sitting on the board and so on... But I saw a video of a guy doing exactly what I like doing with my Impulse and this guy was on a Spotz(4) Shark... So there you go... different taste, different abilities, different quiver... even for the same feeling...
