Re: North Carve Review

Can anyone contrast the difference in riding characteristics between the 2020 to 2021 Carve? I know they changed the Orbit quite a bit and Im curious as to how much this kite changed. Good prices on the 2020s right now.

Re: Facial injury

What about the Gath watersports helmets with the face shield? Seems like the best solution. I also heard that Gath was coming out with a foil specific helmet, but their manufacturing is all messed up due to COVID, so it might be delayed for a while.

Re: North navigator control bar

Where can one buy replacement lines for the 2021 bar? They are shown as sold out on the North online store and I can't find anywhere that sells them. Thanks!

Re: The Ultimate Wetsuit !?

I generally buy cheaper/basic wetsuits for my 3/2 and spend more on my warmer suits. The best "warm" suit I have found is the ONeill Mutuant Legend, which is the right combination of durable, stretchy and warm. Its a 3.5/4.5 suit and the zip off hood makes it incredibly versatile. I find I am comfor...

Re: Bar interoperability

I can't speak specifically to your bars, but the only two mainstream brands that currently use a high V are Core and Duotone (including the old North kites, but not the new North kites which are low V). If your lines are equal length they should work on most low V kites. I think either Real or MacKi...

Re: first foil board - multi purpose kiting - surfing ?

Since you are going to get "towed" up onto the foil (whether by a boat or a kite), all of those purposes can be accomplished on a kite foiling board. Volume won't really play into the equation. The only issue you might have is that you might want a bigger or smaller foil wing depending on what you a...

Re: Eco

Is plastic part of the ‘petroleum’ based problem? Of course, so maybe we stop subsidizing that and then add the cost of recycling to get a much more accurate actual cost of the plastic. My guess is that if the true cost of it was passed on, there would be less used and more recovery/reuse/recycle g...

Re: Eco

Greenwashing is definitely intentional -- I never said anything to the contrary. Regarding the other points... I would call those economics. The average consumer is more focused on dollar price than the broader implications of their consumption. As a result, there is a race to the bottom in terms of...

Re: Eco

I think we are agreeing with eachother. The practice of faking a commitment to sustainability to appeal to consumers is called "Greenwashing", but I don't think Duotone using recycled materials for bags fits that definition. I agree with your general sentiments though. Which is why companies like Pa...

Re: Eco

I agree with your sentiments (I think), but the problem is that manufacturing sustainably, certifying sustainability / fair trade, and sustainability R&D costs a lot of money. Retail margins are already razor thin (I don't know what they are for kite gear, but I can't imagine it is very good) and wh...
