Re: New Milestone in Kitesports Safety: ISO Standard 21853 on Quick-Release Systems

Can you publish the full ISO testing specification DK? I think since we mostly moved to pivoting, none-line-of-load releases like the North solution that max release tension is down to materials interface, parts precsion and plastic deformation. Pull from the kite isn't the factor it was. I'm all fo...

Re: New Milestone in Kitesports Safety: ISO Standard 21853 on Quick-Release Systems

I think that's as clear as mud, pure obscurification. Especially if he's done 'hundreds of tests'. You take as many Afnor designed bars and as many ISO designed bars as you can find and you test them all under both testing standards. Then you crunch the results to see if there's a correlation betwee...

Re: New Milestone in Kitesports Safety: ISO Standard 21853 on Quick-Release Systems

Until someone has run back to back tests on the same units under both regimes its impossible to say if they are comparible or not. I personally have, hundreds of tests on both setups using a vast range of QRs. I designed, built and qualified the system the standard is based on. Cheers DK That much ...

Re: New Milestone in Kitesports Safety: ISO Standard 21853 on Quick-Release Systems

I prefer a bar that feels back to front, it can have a ridge, dot pattern, whatever. That way i know my bar is flipped without having to take my eyes off the kite.

Re: New Milestone in Kitesports Safety: ISO Standard 21853 on Quick-Release Systems

Until someone has run back to back tests on the same units under both regimes its impossible to say if they are comparible or not. I can't help but feel however that it's another step in the GKA's self-serving world domination plan. Same as the UCI submissions process, which i have quite a bit of ex...

Re: New Milestone in Kitesports Safety: ISO Standard 21853 on Quick-Release Systems

A new milestone in safety, that supercedes the French standard---- by having a release force limit that is 14% higher than the existing French standard.

C'est magnifique !

Re: Introducing the World's Lightest and Strongest Kites - Aluula

It could well be the tipping point that takes good to greatness, sure. I havent flown an OR kite for years so I dont know. I have flown super high pressure, fancy airframe material kites though, though that was nearly 14 years Increased price is the cost of innovation, small scale production volumes...

Premium kite, premium materials and premium price. Of course the best materials in the world dont suddenly turn you into the best kite designer.

Re: Aluula ? New Revolutionary Material from Ocean Rodeo

Nice to see a brand finally innovating in the materials market space beyond the 'usual suspect' sail cloth suppliers.

There's a huge amount to overcome in fitting a new materials tech into existing production pipelines. If you can make it work it'll be worth every penny.

Good luck with it guys.

Re: Warranty w Flysurfer - Failed Bridle Lines on Soul

It's a foil kite, that's a moving part, things wear. It might not always be obvious, especially if a rider is relatively new to bridled kites with pulleys, but you do really need to check them before and every every session. Pulleys can and do get clogged up and once they stop rotating freely wear a...
