Re: Is this a crash or not?

Do they not have a rulebook online?

If they are judging by the GKA rules (they are probably not) it would likely be a crash.

"21.1.2.12. A crash will be considered when:
...
21.1.2.12.5. a competitor is completely stopped when landing a jump."

In terms of stability and foot positioning I don't find much difference between high (10:1) and low-mid aspect (7-3.5:1) foils.
What ist the biggest span you use?

Re: Aspect Ratio versus straps and strapless?

Guess I missed your real question before.

I only use a front strap.

But for sure, the strap makes wider foils easier to control.
Also a wider board ist easier, as you can have your stance more offset.

On smaller foils the difference is not as big.

Re: Aspect Ratio versus straps and strapless?

I think you might be mixing some things. First the definition what "high AR" actually is, is changing almost daily at this point. I would consider AR 8,5 to be pretty "high AR". Second, what you describe might just be the result of very wide span. I personally found all foils over 90cm span I tried,...

Re: Bigger stabs better for pumping?

Bigger stab is better for pumping at low speed.
Smaller stab is better for pumping at higher speed.

Since wing ist wind powered, you usually trend towards higher speed.

If you let your speed drop so far, you are getting that dolphin like pump, you are usually better of with a bigger stab.

Re: Review of Strategy in Side-off and big Wave Conditions

When starting high up on the wave pointing down the line I often experienced a boost of speed and pull from the kite due to apparent wind on a bumpy face such that board control became an issue and I could not really carve that nice bottom turn I was aiming for. The whole idea of trying this down t...

Re: Cape Town Basic Rules

Honestly I do not know how you would even measure windspeed somewhat accurately at any of the CT spots.

Re: Cape Town Basic Rules

If you try to get maximum height, the more gusty it is, the better.
If you have 20 Kn average wind, switching between long periods of 17kn and gusts of 26kn, you will jump much higher than constant 20kn.

CT has super gusty wind, brasil has extremely constant wind.
So that matches my expectation.

Re: Why do so many only use ancient "Hero mode" action cams?

I really have not been doing any videos in a while. But if I look at this from ages ago: https://www.facebook.com/jandirk.ruhser/videos/10213678146804176/ The action camera parts would not be any better with a 360° cam. I tried and its just myself and the wave getting tiny and huge amount of boring ...

Re: Why do so many only use ancient "Hero mode" action cams?

I personally find the 360° videos pretty gimmicky. Some angles are very good, when you see them the first time, but get pretty boring after two or three times more. So creating something worth watching for me, seems very hard to do. There mostly is no subject and movement and perspective is extremel...
