Re: Solo hot launching a tube kite

I've seen people set up the kite nose down with the leading edge facing into the wind. Run the lines out straight upwind then under the kite and attach to the pigtails. To launch, tug the lines to get the kite to sit up and roll over backwards and hot launch. I suspect it would only work in strong w...

Re: Best setting for light wind easy relaunch?

Don't know. Try it out in a controlled experiment and report back to us. I would have said A because you're pulling on the extreme end of the kite. You can pull more or less to simulate the pull from further in on the strut. If you're pulling on B or C then you're stuck with those points. Light wind...

Re: Care and feeding of your kite

When you say "roll", I see people tightly rolling their kites into a sausage. Then they have to fold them to get them into the bag. That is really bad. The roll is tight and there are many layers of fabric inside the roll. You end up straining the fabric to kink it as you fold it. You get stress poi...

Re: What are your thoughts on this Vantage Kites kite/wing?

If it works, great. If it doesn't it will disappear like most other "good" ideas. I hope it does work. More versatility is always a good thing. It should be very easy for a manufacturer to add some attachment points and sell a bridle as an accessory. You could experiment with hand held winging and v...

Re: Packing foilkite without bar?

Tie or link the four bridle line attachment points to each other. Even better is to attach the bridle ends to an anchor point on the canopy. Some kites have tabs on the trailing edge. You could add a loop of line to a rear line attachment point. When you lay out your kite follow a single A (front) b...

Re: Is kite boarding/ kitesurfing a boardsport or a kite sport?

It kind of works as a board sport. People on boardie things slashing around doing boardie tricky things. That's near enough for the businesses that sell the stuff. I can live with that. Governments like to put it in the boat box. You sail right? You must be a boat. Have a life jacket and a bailing b...

Re: Is kite boarding/ kitesurfing a boardsport or a kite sport?

It is both. I know what it isn't... sailing :-0 I agree most definitely not sailing. Sailing is sitting in a tub driving a vehicle. With kiteboarding you are part of the craft. The worst part of considering kiting as sailing is people try to apply sailing rules to kiting. They simply do not work. H...

Re: renew clear coat for mast

My masts and foils come from the manufacturer with 2 part white boat paint over the carbon A couple of times a year I fill any scratches or chips, sand back the filler, then respray with cheap rattle can paint (Dulux Duramax). I then sand it to whatever finish I want. The advantage of the white pain...

Re: Is kite boarding/ kitesurfing a boardsport or a kite sport?

It's whatever you want it to be. You can be a kiter who boards or a boarder who kites, or both. A crap kite will ruin your fun, and so will a crap board. You don't need the "best" gear. You do need to be the "best" at using your gear. Adding hydrofoils into the mix confuses things. Yes the change to...

Re: Flotation

^^^^ I never go out further than I am prepared to swim in. I pick my location so that there is a landing place downwind. Some of those "landing" places are reefs so I wear booties if I feel there is a risk of ending up on the reef and needing to walk over sea urchins and rocks. My board has ample fl...
