Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

I view power transfer in all forms of kiting as an invisible triangle. The kite/wing is one point, your arms/shoulders/hips another, and your feet or the foil is the final point. The only real difference is the kite has two long sides and a fair bit more power involved. Our job as a rider is to keep...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

... I've been practicing wingfoil since last November. Coming from foil with kites, it was not hard to learn. Much more physically demanding than learning foil with kites for sure but I can't measure if it's easier or not for a noobie. I've learned foil with kites alone but also had background in k...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

When we talk about waves I suspect we're all picturing head high perfection, and it is true waves like that are a thing of joy on any craft. What is more common is the knee to waist high bit of wind blown mush. Those waves are huge fun on a wing foil. Often you just get a few seconds gliding down th...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

The new North wings are water repellent. They dry in the time it takes to change out of a wetsuit. The only damp bits are the neoprene on the valve clip and the dacron on the ends of the struts. Even with conventional wings, it's much easier to dry a 4-5m wing than a 12m kite. When I started kiting ...

Re: Nice helmet with space for a neoprene cup/hood

I use a Gath SFC (surf convertible cap). The adjustment system is stick on padded strips but the glue is crap, they peel off after a couple of sessions. I use mine without the strips. In winter I have a wetsuit hood under the helmet, and in warmer weather I wear a baseball cap. That pads out the hel...

Re: North shift lock

I guess it's no different in concept to mounting your foil on moveable tracks. I have been perfectly happy for years with my tuttle connections. I guess eventually I will have to surrender to the inevitable.

Re: Does anyone reuse Kite boxes?

I don't think there's anything special about the boxes kites come in. Any box that comes into the house is either kept for storage or posting stuff off, if I'm currently selling stuff, or dismantled and put into the recycling bin. I do like to look at the design of the box while I am dismantling it....

Re: Warning, never do this!

Most countries have a rule that a working vessel has right of way when it's working.

I have a far better rule. Anything that can kill me, or even just annoy me a bit, has right of way. I call it "f*** that, I'm out of here!"

Re: How to get up on foil in light wind

I am having really pleasing results with my Gofoil 850-HA with a 10.5" (tiny) tail. The small tail has minimal drag and the foil is quite fast and efficient. I get my weight relatively far forward on the board, build up a little speed and it slides off the surface. I need enough front foot pressure ...
