They happen when the kite is on the ground often left flapping in the wind or weighed down. If you are not flying a kite pack it down or expect wear and tear.

if your buddies are good surfers they already have boards and wetsuits. they just need a harness and a kite. for $600 each they should be sorted. they just cant go out in all conditions. learning on a surfboard will be slow too. maybe they could share a twin tip whilst learning.
