Re: Tube Kite To Foil Kite- Making the Transition

Here are some more points to consider before making the transition: LIFT TO DRAG RATIO (L/D) [/b]Rams have significant drag ("D") for 3 reasons: a) Increased friction at the "boundary layer"; ie interface between air & kite, because of minute ripples in ram air kites. b) Bridle drag. c) Thickness. ...

Predictions for Ram Airs in 2019

Well, it's that time of year again. 2019 has arrived with a bang or, for ram lovers, another big swim-in with their sleeping bag. Previous predictions about ram airs have proven amazingly accurate. The exodus of riders from ram to inflatable will continue; ram air sales will continue to fall as a pr...

Ram air caught in surf disaster

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFrtdIKqMuw Ok, ok, it's a paraglider, but the principles are the same: Ram airs SUCK in the surf! After his canopy went down, he was too tied-up to free himself or save his flying sleeping bag. Check-out how his friends are struggling to drag the waterlogged bag. Ram...

Re: Will we see the first foil kite at King of the Air 2019?

I guess we see what we wanna see... Then I see what looks like a foilkite going to 5th line safety with instant powerloss. Ram airs are DANGEROUS!! Even if what we're seeing here is a deliberate flag-out on the 5th line (rather than a completely uncontrolled ram air collapse), it begs the question:...

Re: Will we see the first foil kite at King of the Air 2019?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSmG9xK_8Vs Back in 2009 with Psycho4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSmG9xK_8Vs What a disastrous advertisement for ram airs!! Check out the ram air kite collapsing and deforming between 28s -> 34s. This could've easily ended in tears, injuring the rider and/or the...

Re: Will we see the first foil kite at King of the Air 2019?

What a nonsense all of the above, where did you get this bullshit from    Foil kites are super efficient wings that are designed to fly. At the Dutch NK big air competion the guys that came on the first and second podium place had foil kites. The average level of the dutch big air ri...

Re: Will we see the first foil kite at King of the Air 2019?

Btw, where is PMU these days? Has anybody heard from "pump me up" on this one? I am starting to get worried Pumpy got hurt and/or is in a coma or something. Careful what you wish for. PMU is alive and well..... Ram airs are HOPELESS/inferior in BIG AIR events. Big air events, possibly moreso...
