Re: Ram airs crash in 2019

2020 is approaching. It's time to look at the failure of ram air kites this year with 20/20 vision. Despite a multitude of ridiculous claims from ram lovers, ram airs cRaSHeD. A well-known designer for ram-air-central, i.e. FLYSURFER, had this to say: “… it’s the Tube-kite that stands victorious. Fr...

Re: now foil kiters are saying their kites drift better

DRIFT, RIGIDITY, STABILITY, & FOIL SHAPE Often the best wave riding conditions occur with cross-offshore wind. Ram airs are soft and floppy and are prone to collapsing, twisting, and falling in such conditions. In cross-offshore conditions, ram airs DO NOT drift better - they are frightening, unrel...

Re: now foil kiters are saying their kites drift better

COMPETITION If ram air kites DID drift better, they'd dominate in competitions. It hasn't happened. NO ram riders have ever made it into the top 20 in high-quality, well-subscribed competitions e.g. https://www.gkakiteworldtour.com/rankings-2019/ .The top pro riders ALL use inflatables because of s...

Re: now foil kiters are saying their kites drift better

For foil (ram air) lovers to say their kites drift better is typical ... and pure bullshit :angryfire: Ram airs are inferior compared to inflatables, including in drift ability and resistance to sinking. Here's a summary of experience with inferior ram air drifting, and the reasons for this inferior...

Re: now foil kiters are saying their kites drift better

More lies and propaganda from ram lovers, unfortunately  Ram air kites have REAL problems with sinking. They certainly don't drift better. In fact, there's a current thread on the Ram Lovers Subforum titled "Sea Anchor", about how their ram air became a SEA ANCHOR. Check-out the full admission...

Re: LEI power comparison with closed cell foil.

But thanks so much for all the feedback everyone! MUCH appreciated :) I'll definitely try LEI out :) You're welcome Rannoch :thumb: On top of the aforementioned, one of the world’s most respected kite designers and erstwhile designer for FLYSURFER (the world's largest closed-cell ram air kite manuf...

Re: LEI power comparison with closed cell foil.

But thanks so much for all the feedback everyone! MUCH appreciated :) I'll definitely try LEI out :) You're welcome Rannoch. Feel free to ask more questions. But please keep in mind that ram air kites ("foil kites") are aerodynamically inferior compared to inflatables; the market share is 97% to 3%...

Re: LEI power comparison with closed cell foil.

Thanks for the multiple invitations to post on this topic :pump: In answer to your questions: Inflatables are vastly superior to ram airs. I've summarised the reasons for the superiority of inflatables: OVERVIEW OF PROBLEMS (L/D) [/b] - getting used to tuning the mixer - learning how to swim back wi...

Re: Tube Kite To Foil Kite- Making the Transition

Here are some more points to consider before making the transition: LIFT TO DRAG RATIO (L/D) [/b]Rams have significant drag ("D") for 3 reasons: a) Increased friction at the "boundary layer"; ie interface between air & kite, because of minute ripples in ram air kites. b) Bridle drag. c) Thickness. ...
