I discovered while riding strapless that my upwind was much better. I figured out that when riding with straps I was pulling the board up with my toes far to much. Keeping the the board flat is the best for upwind. Also, like stated earlier, less weight on the back foot to keep the board as flat as ...

In general, online purchases in hawaii sucks. We get raped on shipping charges. However, offdalip.com is local and sells a good variety of boards. There are several local shapers who sell custom boards also. I've had good experiences with John Amundson. Winter season in hawaii is hit or miss. When i...

I was reading some of these posts and had this interesting thought. When I first started I remember often thinking why did my kite fall out of the sky (more like why the %!@# did my kite fall). Now it's often I can't believe my kite stayed in the sky while riding the board in the wrong direction in ...

If you're luffing your kite you're either positioning yourself in such a way that you've put your kite outside the wind window or your board speed is faster than windspeed and you fly straight at your kite to out run it. It's all about maintaining line tension. I usually turn the kite straight into ...

I read your message about mixing kiting and honeymoon thinking three posible scenarios. 1. DANGER! 2. Wife kites 3. Amazingly understanding wife. Stayed at a very nice condo in maui. It was in paia. If I remember correctly we booked through windsurfari. I'm scouring my brain here and I think it was ...

I bet if you put all the marketing and hype asside perform a blind test of concave vs flat all other things equal, majority of riders wouldn't be able to consistently identify which board was what. Then again I think boards ride more the same than different. What ever it is you have under your feet ...

I wouldn't say don't go to a doctor but I wouldn't worry if you can't get in right away unless you've got stinky discharge which would indicate infection. My ENT didn't give me any ear drops. In fact he didn't really do anything to treat the perf. The main thing is to keep it from getting infected (...

A subject I know about all too well from personal experience. I perfed my eardrum last year. I didn't feel disoriented but I did feel like there was water in my ear. Reflecting back I thought this because the hearing was impaired. I tried to clear it but obviously it wouldn't. I got to the beach and...

Doesn't look like much surf to be had. Those boards look really narrow, thin, and lot of rocker for a stand up board. I give those guys props to be able to stand on it if it's their first time. The sport is definitely growing here on oahu. The wind conditions have been more appropriate for stand up ...

This is just my opinion but I don't think riding strapped or strappless affects board size. Here on oahu we get choppy conditions. I find it annoying to ride strapless with the bumps. I find that board size mostly affects drive. Seems like the sweet spot as far as size is about the 6-0 range +/- 2 i...
