Re: quad vs two fins?

I'm a big fan of twinnies for both kiting and surfing. IMHO, with kiting compared to surfing you require so much less drive off the fins to generate your speed down the line, you can get by with a looser fin setup as long as you have enough fin area to avoid blowing out the bottom turn. I use MR-TFX...

Re: Advice needed: BIC 6'7" vs NSP fish 6'4" (strapless)

Hey, I know this thread is ancient news, but I was recently on vacation with my kites, and tried a Bic 6'7 and a NSP 6'0 Fish rental boards back-to-back, so I thought I'd contribute my thoughts for any future googlers who stumble across this thread. I thought the Bic was better on the wave face itse...

Re: Anyone kiting yet in Northeast

Been kiting all winter on Cape Cod. Yesterday was fun as hell and apparently i was the only kiter riding in Buzzards Bay. Still need gloves, but I was able to use my 2mm neo socks instead of my thick winter boots. I don't mind the winter. The cold water is made up for by the deserted beaches and hav...

Recycle Your Old, Busted Drysuit

If you've got an old beat up drysuit that you are going to replace, don't throw it in the trash -- mail it to me, and I will make something usable out of it. Lately, I have been making cool wallets out of busted sports equipment, like blown bicycle inner tubes and the old neck seal that I replaced o...

Re: Do you think it is wise to buy a destroyed kite cheap?

Depends on how torn up it is. I successfully repaired a 4" tear just behind the LE of a Waroo, and have had absolutely no problems with it. If the panels are, for instance, totally blown apart, I wouldn't bother.

Re: How do you Jump Unhooked? (preparing for an s-bend!)

No disrespect here, but if you've only been riding two weeks, I'm guessing you are still probably riding with the "poopoo" stance -- butt out, back bent -- which is being exaggerated when you unhook. Try to keep your back straight and hips forward when riding and especially when unhooking, so all th...

Re: How do you Jump Unhooked? (preparing for an s-bend!)

Some will (validly) argue that a C or hybrid is better than the Waroo for wakestyle tricks, but at this stage in the game, I doubt your kite selection is going to make a huge difference in learning those first few unhooked moves -- railey, hoochie glide, your first sloppy "s-bend." S-bends are certa...

Re: How Do I Start?

The best thing you can do right now is to buy a trainer kite and learn to fly it well. Don't fly it half a dozen times and call it quits; fly it to the point where you can fly it with your eyes closed, and know exactly what it's going to do at every point in the wind window. Much like continuously c...

Re: Leash Alternative - Go Joe?

Save yourself some cash and get a kid's water wing and put that around your board's handle. Does the same thing as the Go Joe, for 50 cents. I used to do this a few years ago when I was learning to body drag.

Not only do these kites look great, it is so refreshing to see their product descriptions so concise, well written, and free of the sickeningly unctuous marketing hype that is all too common these days.

...I can't believe I just used the word "unctuous" in an internet forum post...
