Re: North navigator control bar

To add to my earlier review: my kite shop contacted me because I had one of the earlier Navigator bars, that was subject to a recall (possible premature wear of the depower line?). They sent me a brand new bar free of charge, so good on North! Looks like they fixed the annoying bungee cords. Also fe...

Re: North navigator control bar

After riding home-made "frankenbars" for many years I recently upgraded to a North Navigator and a Duotone Clickbar. I use the narrow navigator in the wide setting on 13 and 11 Cabrinha drifters and the (very) narrow Clickbar on my 9m Wave and 7m SST. I only ride strapless surfboards in the waves wi...

Re: Foil kite launching on small beach

Foil kites take a while to inflate in light wind so use a battery powered leaf blower to inflate if you want to get from the beach quickly.
These guys have figured out how to drift launch without a beach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBd8vNaW1As

Zeeko white & green or Spitfire to learn on?

So I just made up my mind to buy a Zeeko white&green alloy foil to learn on and then the Spitfire foil comes out... Background: Been kiting for 10+ years, last couple of years mostly strapless surfboard in waves. Finally decided to get into foiling for boring lower wind days. Mainly interested in ri...

Re: Custom Surfboard

TomW, have you made a board like this without the channels, or with different channels? Please comment on how you feel they affect the performance. Thanks! Basically I looked at an Evo, made it shorter, concave deck, thinner rails. It's down to 10mm thick at deepest part of concaves around 1/3 up fr...

Re: I don't believe in Flex !

Personally I believe in flex, but not in the explanations by most board builders/marketeers of why flex works. Over the last 50 or so years board builders and surfers have figured out the best shapes and construction methods through trial and error. It is a beautiful thing, and we should all be than...

Re: Stainless steel pins used in leash quick release

Bought this "1/4" Long D rigging shackle" from ebay for $5.53 http://www.ebay.com/itm/271599024774?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT IMG_0266.JPG 10 minutes with hacksaw and file turns it into two 6 mm pins that (tightly) fit 3/16 Amsteel depower line. The resulting pin is a...

Re: Chicken Loop Bye Bye?

Ronnie, I have used a Naish "trim line pulley" with my sliding spreader bar. Nice and simple with no moving parts, and at $22 much cheaper than the Wichard halyard. Super compact if you connect a small ring with the bolt on the pulley, and connect a Cabrinha mushroom QR to the ring. Downside was tha...

Re: Do you wear a ring on your finger when kiting?

This happened back in 2004 with a 2 line Wipika. Got lofted a bit and when I was put back down, I released the QR with my left hand, with my right hand still on the bar. I guess I was about to get lofted again because the bar took off with so much speed that it bent my wedding ring inwards, cutting ...

Re: Action Cameras for Kiting: Battle of the Cheapos

SJ4000 works fine, but does not quite fit in the good GoPro line mounts (like the latest camrig mount, which position the center of gravity exactly between the lines, to minimize shaking). Techmoan has great detailed reviews on cheap cameras: http://www.techmoan.com/blog/category/action-cameras.
