Re: Localism - How to keep people out of your kite spot

Damn. I spent a few days offline and some of you really went at it in the meantime. Some of you people are ruthless There used to be some respect for localism. There were certain surf spots, certain bike trails, or certain backcountry ski areas you just relented to the locals if you were new or fro...

Re: wainman 3.1 9m (2016) any opinions?

The Smoke is a fantastic kite if you want to know what kites were like way back in the day... It's an homage to everything Lou, Franz and gang. It power loops with serious pull, works decent in the surf, handles gusts well, and is a very well behaved kite. There are much better kites out there now, ...

Re: Pivot deforming in high winds?

It was a tad breezy here too: Kite Journal entry for 5/20: "Rounded the farm animals into the barn, sheltered with family in tornado shelter..." I would consider anything with sustained wind over 30 knots as too unpleasant to be outdoors! I'm always amazed at the estimated wind ranges people on the...

Re: Hand numbness while winging

Dave, looks like you did what I was going to recommend (besides switching to a Duotone...) I was going to suggest using a heavy vinyl tube and wrapping it in padded tennis racket tape. Maybe not so long so that the tubing could slide a little and stay more straight as opposed to curved with the hand...

Re: LEI kites in roof top box

I use a white topped box, with a somewhat worn out seal strip. The kites are always dry and cool to the touch when I take them out the next day. Stored in the car, the kites would still be wet (if stored that way) and warm to touch from baking in the car. So not sure if its the white top or the airf...

Re: Ozone Edge V9 - great kite, but something's wrong with the quality of the product.

If I had just purchased a brand new kite and it didn't pump up, I'd be stopping payment to the seller first! Glad to see Ozone is reading and responding to the forum. There certainly seem to be a number of Forum complaints regarding bladders. And then the chicken loop safety recall... someone in pro...

Reedin Supermodel?

People who ordered should have kites by now. Any thoughts yet from non sponsored riders? What bar and line length? will probably just pick up an 8m Enduro 2 as they're about to go on close out, but I'd sure like to ride like Kev!

Re: Adaption to smaller size kite

Just read all the posts, Herman's are text book (or he should write the textbook!) Only thing I didn't see was gear wise... a small kite on long lines and long bar (like you probably have for your big kite) will allow you to depower and still turn kite especially in side-off conditions where the wav...

Re: Summer vs winter wetsuit sizing

I definitely notice that my harness shrinks a size over the winter as it's always a bit tight at the start of the season... Oneill suits (especially the high end ones) stretch like mad. I wear a L in most brands, but after about 5 surfs in a 4/3 Pyscho, it's too big. The M is too small to be c...

Re: Beginner Advice

Your board skills will help tremendously. What you need is kite skill and wind knowledge. An inexpensive trainer kite is a good investment for learning about wind strength, space requirements, and kite flying. You can keep it and use with a skateboard, or give to friend etc. who goes to beach with y...
