Re: Kitesurfing New Zealand north island round christmas

I was so impressed by Maffhieu's map that I thought I'd get my own up: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1PxItdQ_kcsUo7_crfM-I3nUuSHFWyRXE&ll=-38.9077160097394%2C169.69946498176625&z=5 These are probably 90% of the places I've kited and/or windsurfed over many years (starting 1994 to be precise...

Re: go-joe

Update on goejoe. It worked pretty much as planned on my Maui trip. Mostly I used my surfboard but I had a couple of twintip sessions. First thing at Kanaha was a big downloop turn wipeout-the board stalled in the turn and a gust hit while the kite looped. I was a long way downwind from the board. W...

Re: go-joe

I thought I might weigh in on this one in one of my rare communications. I've been kiting for 12 years now and while I don't have any talent I wouldn't call myself a beginner. I can backroll and downloop turn with the best of them, jump reasonably high and ride a strapless surfboard. But bodydraggin...

Re: New Zealand

Kiwibayer has a point - the north island is on the whole better for kiting, but if you're on the south island you might as well have your gear with you anyway and enjoy a sesh if it happens. It should be windy at the time you're going. A couple of places that could well be on your route anyway: Nels...

Re: Front zip Or Back Zip wetsuit?

Interesting thread. Age and golfer's elbow have made it difficult, now impossible, for me to unzip behind my neck so I was forced to get a front zip. I have one that zips all the way down to the crotch so it's no problem to get in. Getting out means getting it off the shoulders which would be tricky...

Re: Whats your stupid story?

. Not sure how it ended but it was well before any drowning threat. So far a completely mundane story. The bad part is that, as I was dragged face-first through the water something nasty got in my nose and was forced up into a remote part of my sinuses where it camped, with very little blood able t...

Re: Whats your stupid story?

Love this thread so will come out of my usual silence with two stories-stupid in very different ways. First one. Alameda Beach about 10 years ago. Just beginning to get upwind - a 17m CO_2 which I was pleased to toss in the dump the other day. I went down there with a friend who wanted to windsurf-n...

Re: Maui Kitebeach to be banned !

I got a reply from Stacy Masuda. The content was essentially the same as the photos posted here of signposts defining zones A, B and C. So it seems like hardly any change for kiters but the poor windsurfers have lost their best launch area. I used to launch from what is now part of zone B in my wind...

Re: Maui Kitebeach to be banned !

Here is the answer I got from Underwood: "I have copied our Maui District Manager, Stacy Masuda, and she can provide you with a description of the swim areas. Other than the swim areas, you can engage in kiting in the near shore water off Kanaha Beach. " If "the swim areas" are not much more than th...

Re: Maui Kitebeach to be banned !

Can someone give me an email address for a person in authority involved in banning this access? We are about to book accommodation for upwards of 40 people on Maui in July 2014. Although very few of us are kiters we will go somewhere else besides Maui if access at Kanaha becomes difficult. I would l...
