Re: Relaunching Edge in really low wind

Owned the 11 Edge for foiling but sold it and replaced it with a 12 Soul due to the iffy relaunch in lower wind strength. Yes, it got me going in the light stuff kind of but it is bloody heavy and in the wind needed to keep it flying you were almost overpowered when up on the foil. Had a couple of s...

Re: Foil kites on wet beaches

Same with me, I have a 12 Soul and a 12 single strut for possible rain. Wet foil kites are the worst unless you have a big area to dry them.

Re: Learning 180 after mastering 360

My foot pump into the 180 is much larger than when doing a 360. This tends to throw you forward and centred over the board for the exit. I also look way over my shoulder during a 360, continuing the turn, but just back the other way during a 180.

Re: Landing Sand anchor

I have one of these, it will not pull out. I don’t use it much anymore as I’m foiling, but I once had a LIE self launch itself as I had forgotten to pull the depower strap, it went vertical then over to the other side, no movement of the anchor. You use a handle to install it, then remove the handle...

Re: small front wing

As an experiment I built two wings, same plan shape (low profile) and size, around 1100 sqcm. One is 30 mm thick, one 16 mm thick. Both have similar low stall speed, but the upper end of the thick wing is about 16 knots where the thin wing is 20 knots. Roll tacks and 360’s are more difficult on the ...

Re: Small crack on Groove board. How to repair

PVC is a stronger, closed cell foam. Any damage won’t take on water. It is extremely hard, almost impossible to heal dent so no soft spots. It is slightly heavier but is the perfect material for thin foil boards. But as fas as I know you can’t build a moulded board with solid PVC as it has no give, ...

Re: Small crack on Groove board. How to repair

Hopefully I can be proven wrong but the only reason I could see for using a polystyrene core on a board this thin is to make a board mouldable. I thought Groove were full PVC but maybe they have changed to increase productivity.

Re: Strutless LEI vs foil

Pocket board with a decent size surf wing, a 10 mtr foil kite is probably the biggest you will need. Anything bigger can become a handful fairly quickly.

Re: Single strut kite wind speed?

I agree with Frankieboy, I love my clouds too, but, here we sometimes play race, up around a mark and back again. I got smashed constantly by guys on 3 and 5 struts as they could point higher and hold more power than single and no strut kites. So in regards to kites for foiling, really depends what ...
