Re: The Safety Topic: please post your experience and advice!

Thanks for posting that Sarc. Sorry to hear about the death in San Francisco. You're right, it's good to have discussions about launch procedure. I'd like to offer some thoughts: Excellent point about not hooking in till the last moment before launch, see 6:31 in the video above "Assessing for Best ...

Re: Kiting kids

Thanks Dimitri, No doubt that you and your son are both skilled kiters, I can tell that you care about him and want him to have fun. It's great that he can kite so well, and congratulations on the good report card. I'm just saying... ya know? here are some of my observations: -We all have the right ...

Re: Kiting kids

p.s. look in the previous post at the picture of that young rider on the jellyfish board, jumping just upwind of the guy in the wetsuit, and in shin-deep water. that's the kind of stuff i mean. this kiter either was not taught that this is not OK... or he just forgot, in the excitement... or perhaps...

Re: Kiting kids

I'm going to disagree with a previous poster who said that the first golden rule when teaching kids is "make it fun." Kiting is fun enough already. The first golden rule I say is, make it safe. Often parents come to me and ask me if it's a good idea to teach their younger kids to kite. In my experie...

Re: Sharing a small beach space effectively

Thanks plummet, i agree that the strategy will depend on your location and conditions. Where we are, the biggest part of the shorebreak crashes directly on to the beach, which may be narrow enough that not only the people on the beach/in the shorebreak, as well as the concrete wall or tree line is w...

Sharing a small beach space effectively

This season at our location we’ve seen more erosion and a smaller beach than in recent years. Some of us are sharing a beach which is narrower than the length of our lines, using the same spot for multiple kiters both launching and landing, and having to watch out for pedestrians and swimmers in the...

Re: Distance to front line split effect on turning/ performa

I've played around with this a fair bit and here is my two cents' worth; I quite agree with Bill. In my experience, putting the Y too close to the kite does definitely pull the tips of the kite together and adversely affect performance. I found this out because I've done a lot of cutting down lines ...

Re: KTA Vietnam Teaser Video is out

I was also in Mui Ne when the the kite competition passed through. I think it’s great if people can get together to have fun and compete, I saw lots of people there enjoying themselves immensely. It’s too bad about the noise issues, I am far out of earshot but the people I know who live in the area ...
