Re: What to do?

Thanks for the replies guys... love the suggestions for stroke questions. ;) Thing with my guy is that (a) he wasn't even answering the question of "Are you OK?!" (b) he was acting really weak so a a tow back to shore didn't seem likely (c) I was worried about getting too close to him while kiting b...

Re: What to do?

"So I went back to him and was shouting commands on how to relaunch (he was also experienced). But he didn't move at all ! No reaction whatsoever...just being dragged behind his kite, head up, but like mind absent, as you reported." That sounds exactly the same! I can picture it... thought he was de...

What to do?

Recent situation: very cold water, steady moderate wind. I see another kiter in the water with his kite intact, but the QR apparently activated. He's making no attempt to relaunch. He's wearing a drysuit but is a few hundred metres off shore. Board way behind him out of reach. I kite past him close ...

Re: Water launching Sonics, any success?

Thanks for these guides, Horst Sergio. I love the launching technique and I'm getting pretty good at it. Practice makes perfect. I think your kite folding tips are key to the success. But the landing and packing up is still a mess. I find it pretty impossible to open the valves in the water without ...

Re: making flying lines - how to attach depower line to front line?

Flysurfer still use this system. Its actually quite neat executed. Its also serve as stopper ball because bar cannot go past Y split. There's actually a figure-of-eight tied into the flagline as a stopper knot close to the Y split, it's not the actual Y split that the bar jams against. Works great ...

Re: making flying lines - how to attach depower line to front line?

I would buy a new line at 24m and run it as a 5th line, it will be similar parastic drag to the line you are making and much safer should you hit the safety. Put the kite up above you and adjust the length accordingly. ...with a stopper ball or knot partway up the 5th line so the bar doesn't slide ...

Re: making flying lines - how to attach depower line to front line?

I have also attached the safety line with a Prusik. It slips a little each time you release the safety and you have to move the knot back up the line to reset it. Check this pdf for some splicing inspiration. https://www.machovec.com/rope/splicing/12strand_end_end.htm Test in light winds! If the Pr...

Re: making flying lines - how to attach depower line to front line?

Yeah, I tried it last night with a 20cm tail and it still slipped. The outside line is 1.5mm Dyneema and I tried burying another piece of the same line, and also tried with a piece of thinner line. Slipped both times.

Re: making flying lines -- how to attach depower line to front line?

Thanks all. @foilholio and @tomtom: my attempts at a midline splice slip whether I use the same line or something lighter (like 200lb Jerry Brown). So I guess the stitching is essential for holding the splice together, right? Not friction as in a traditional splice? @evan: I really like that idea of...

Re: making flying lines -- how to attach depower line to front line?

Right... the safety line is about 10m long and it is fixed permanently to one of the front flying lines (which are 21m long). The attachment point for the safety line is a little loop that seems to be spliced and/or sewn into the front line, obviously in a way that does not decrease the strength of ...
