Re: Launching foils in tight spots

Water is too deep to stand on and have better angle to lines or too deep even normal standing drift launch? Then final option is the swim launch. Here is very tight beach next to me, there is no way I could launch feet dry. VID_20180109_031138_00_001_2020-11-17_21-25-20_screenshot_drift.jpg Swim la...

Re: Launching foils in tight spots

Did you really really pre-inflate? Do you know how to fly the kite on the pigtails at the kite with your hands until it is truly inflated? Hold both front line pigtails in strong hand above both steering pigtails in weak hand. You can yank the fronts to launch the kite and sheet in/out and steer le...

crack in chicken loop - problem?

Flysurfer bar... the plastic tubing on my chicken loop has a crack in it, probably just from cold & wear. The bar isn't too old and the rope inside the chicken loops seems fine. Do I need to do anything or can I ignore this? Is this even fixable without replacing the entire chicken loop? IMG_2020091...

Launching foils in tight spots

I've been using Flysurfers for about 10 years, but had a bad experience the other day at a spot I've never kited before. (It's a popular spot, known to be a bit tricky.) I was using my 9m Speed 5. Beach is narrow and there is a line of tall trees about 30 m behind it. Wind was about 20kts, fairly gu...

Advice on fixing a small rip?

What's the best way to fix a tear like this? Sail tape on the inside and/or outside surface, then some stitching? Kite is a 9m Flysurfer Speed 5.

IKO insurance worth it?

Is the IKO insurance actually worth anything? I'm skeptical, but $30 is pretty cheap. Does it cover things that actually ever happen? Really apply worldwide? Actually pay out without endless hassles in the event of an accident?

Re: What to do?

Thanks for the replies guys... love the suggestions for stroke questions. ;) Thing with my guy is that (a) he wasn't even answering the question of "Are you OK?!" (b) he was acting really weak so a a tow back to shore didn't seem likely (c) I was worried about getting too close to him while kiting b...

Re: What to do?

"So I went back to him and was shouting commands on how to relaunch (he was also experienced). But he didn't move at all ! No reaction whatsoever...just being dragged behind his kite, head up, but like mind absent, as you reported." That sounds exactly the same! I can picture it... thought he was de...

What to do?

Recent situation: very cold water, steady moderate wind. I see another kiter in the water with his kite intact, but the QR apparently activated. He's making no attempt to relaunch. He's wearing a drysuit but is a few hundred metres off shore. Board way behind him out of reach. I kite past him close ...
