carabiner on slider ropes on harness?

Most of the time I prefer a slider rope on my harness instead of a fixed hook. But occasionally, when I have to self-launch, the slider rope is a problem. For those rare occasions, is there any reason I could not use a carabiner to clip into the slider ropes and the chicken loop of the kite? (A stro...

Re: trouble splicing 1.5mm SK99 kiteline

Update: I finally succeeded in getting the splices done. To recap, this was in 1.5mm SK99 Dyneema kiteline, which someone above pointed out has 16 strands. I paid the big money for Marlow's official kiteline fid and made my tapers longer and thinner, and that seemed to do it. It was still more diffi...

Re: trouble splicing 1.5mm SK99 kiteline

Thanks for all the suggestions, really appreciated. I'll try some more.
Where does one even buy a splicing needle thin enough for kite line? Never have been able to find one, hence the guitar string.

trouble splicing 1.5mm SK99 kiteline

I got a great deal on some Marlow 1.5mm SK99 Dyneema kiteline and was hoping to make myself a new set of flying lines. But I'm finding it impossible to splice -- it's more tightly woven or something. I'm using a guitar string as a fid (the same string as I've used to make previous sets using thinner...

snowkite spots near Nelson, BC?

Hi all, heading to the Kootenays in British Columbia, Nelson and area. Mostly a downhill ski trip but wondering if I should pack a kite along too. Any kite spots in that area?

Re: Western Portugal in October - water temp

Just to close the loop on this: had awesome sessions at Fonte da Telha beach (near Lisbon) and Meia Praia (near Lagos). Both fantastic spots, tons of space especially this time of year. 4/3 was a bit too warm but fine. Thong bikini would have been too cold. Also saw some spectacular HUGE surf along ...

Re: Western Portugal in October - water temp

Thanks for all the awesome answers! 4/3 it is (I think I'll skip the thong bikini but thanks for the suggestion). If anyone has tips on favourite kiting spots please send them. This will be mostly a sightseeing trip, but hoping to get some kite sessions in. Will be in Lisbon, Porto, Lagos, and the "...

Western Portugal in October - water temp

I'll be in Portugal for a few days next week, mostly on the Western coast in the southern half of the country (Almograve and that area). What is the water temperature like in mid-late October? Shorty or 4/3?

Thanks.
