Re: Too many mistakes to list

Hmmm. Seems to me there was an adult there assisting these kids in this stupidity. Why aren’t the rest of you flaming him? The lessons are too many to list, but include - unsafe location, unpredictable conditions, inexperience, poorly trained, and idiot adult supervision.

Re: Aluula? New Revolutionary Material from Ocean Rodeo

. There are kites for that. They’re called foil kites.
18m Flysurfer Soul or better yet Sonic is your boosting ticket in 15 knots. Far more power and lift than any 17m LEI. :thumb:

Re: Soul with an SS bar

Rome, Modern kite bar and line sets are engineered for high loads such as kite loops. The problem with a 4 line bar is lose one line and you don’t glide to the earth, you plummet like a stone. So, first rule of thumb with gliding is to not glide higher than you are willing to fall. Gliding high and ...

Re: Advice For Boosting Large Foil Kite with Twin Tip

A couple thoughts. 1. Try taking the kite to zenith instead of 1 with your 12m Soul, that will help you with your landings. 2. The technique with the 18 is not much different than the 12. I suggest trying the 18 in a bit stronger wind, it should be enough that you size down your board. Part of the p...

Re: How long is your drive to the Kiting Spot, how long is your Session, how exhausted are you after the session

Water 40 to 90 minutes. I ride 5 different spots
Ride for 2 to 3 hours
Tired only if the wind is strong

Snow 75 minutes to 2 hours
Ride for 3 to 6 hours
Tired only on the longer sessions

Between snow & water average about 150 to 200 sessions per year. Rode a lot more in 2020. :thumb:

Re: Paraglider Wants To Snow Kite

I don’t think you can make generalizations about the safety of snow kiting vs water vs land. There are just too many variables based on location. Wind conditions, surface, obstacles, number of people, etc. So, I bridle when I see postings that say it is safe to learn how to snowkite without instruct...

Re: Paraglider Wants To Snow Kite

I am not going to mince words. I am sick and tired of newbies showing up at some of my local kite launches that refuse to take lessons and then do stupid things that risk injury to themselves and others. Just the other day, a group of young men decided to use a 6m kite as a trainer. They figured tha...

Re: Paraglider Wants To Snow Kite

Why is that so many newbies think because they are proficient in a slightly related sport (paragliding, snowboarding, skiing, wakeboarding, surfing) or just that hey are young and in good shape that they don’t need lessons. If I was proficient driving a car would you lend me a dump truck? Let me jus...

Re: Camping at Skyline?

How are things looking at Skyline? The Snotel gauge is reading 15". Good to go or still too shallow? Hoping to get up there in a couple of weeks... There is enough snow at Skyline. There are still some rocks and sage showing, but it is snowing as we speak with more in the forecast. Strawberry is st...

Re: What an absolute dick!

How does forgetting your kites make you an “Absolute Dick?” I once forgot my youngest son’s bag at home on a family vacation, I think that would be a better qualification for being a Dick. In fact, my wife would celebrate any family vacation where I left my gear at home. She was complaining to me to...
