Re: Corrosion basics for kiteboarders

Very interesting thread, guys! I have seen very clear corrosion of my Onda fuselage (Al) even after the first short use in North Sea and I was shocked, to be honest! The corrosion (white spots of Al oxides) appeared at and near the contact points between the mast (C) and the fuselage (Al). To compl...

Re: Corrosion basics for kiteboarders

Wrogu, galvanic corrosion is an issue for individuals using aluminum hydrofoil masts with stainless fasteners. Fair call re intergranular corrosion. I'll upload info tonight. Good point - I do not foil myself ;) Anyway using SS bolts is still better than other way round. An Al-In-Zn anode could hel...

Re: Corrosion basics for kiteboarders

But in kiting gear you rarely see galvanic corrosion as you rarely connect metals.

Thumbs up rule is to use small cathode (more noble metal) as a fastener/bolt and large anode.

Re: Corrosion basics for kiteboarders

Al-In-Zn anode would be better or even risking a magnesium one -for an 'Al' mast that is. For uniform corrosion. 'CP' for pitting (negative polarization) is also benefitial. Crevices are indeed an issue. I also do not see a threat from OH- ions generation as foils moves (Al is prone to alkaline corr...

Re: Corrosion basics for kiteboarders

GREAT post "plummet" !! :thumb: So it's Not a great idea, to place those SS -- T-nuts, for the foot-straps , directly into carbon ? Bille There should be no issue as there should be no electrolyte between carbon and tnut. Plus rest of the carbon is insulated by the resin. It is a composite after all.

Re: Corrosion basics for kiteboarders

How do we prevent pitting corrosion. Well the best way is to use material which is not susceptible to pitting/corrosion in given conditions. 316 ss is not considered to be resistant to corrosion in seawater. Alloys with higher PREN than 316 are also not considered immune. For 20C water 3% NaCl, pre...

Re: Naish Dash 9m (1st edition) does NOT fly

You would be unlucky if the bridle was made symmetrically wrong but possible of course. In an ideal world the manufacturer would publish the bridal drawings and amendment states so that it would be easy to check, identify spares or make replacements. Although the average rider is unlikely to be to ...

Re: Naish Dash 9m (1st edition) does NOT fly

Bridle adjustment is not an easy task. If it was only the front to back lines ratio it would be not an issue. Anyway I would check it in water in lighter wind with too short backlines and would start depowering it and checking at which point kite stops backstalling (or the other way round - check wh...

Re: North/Duotone click bar with Core kites

Anyone know exat V/Y line split at north click bar?

If one could adjust V on click correctly it would work just as a native core bar.
