The Kitty Hawk Kites site has a pool and each unit has a hot tub as well. The area right in front of there is super shallow and easy to learn, although you may have to walk a little downwind in the water to teach your kids so you are not in the way of the KHK lessons/riders. If you have a kite with a safety line attached the the 2 front lines (cab IDS, epic renegade, etc etc), walk up your safety line to the bar, wrap that safety line that has pulled out around the back of the bar to fix it out (so the kite can't re-power up), then wrap up all four lines up to the kite....

just to second what everyone else is saying, the safest option is to relaunch your kite with the lines crossed, ride directly back to the beach and fix it there. the kite will fly with lines crossed...not good for the lines to do this for a long time, but fine for a quick ride back to the beach. if ...

I've done the bus trip....and its pretty easy. There's one bus you take from San Jose to La Cruz (basically, its the bus to the Nicaraguan border....La Cruz is about 20 mins south of the border). I was on Little Corn Island at the end of November for 2 weeks last year and wished I had kiting gear. Beautiful spot and windy 10 out of the 14 days I was there. I would guess it was around 20 mph most days. One guy showed up wtih kiting gear and kited for a day before putting his kite on a buildin...
