Re: Beginner Advice

I was you a decade ago, snowboarder who was keen to learn to kite. FLandOBX is bang on with his advice. Board skills should come quicker to you but it is very different being hooked on to a kite. By all means play with a trainer kite, but the power of a real kite will surprise you. Take lessons. Saf...

Re: Kite camp for a beginner

Check out Ty Luckett in Hatteras. Teaches from a boat, which means you can learn board skills separately from kite skills. Very comfortable set up for a beginner, you will progress much faster than being taught from the beach or a wave-runner. Lots on this forum about Ty. Check him out on Facebook a...

Re: Cape Hatteras in May

Yeah, if you want stuff to do, stay in Nags Head, makes sense with kids. We will be there in late May but are just there for the kiting/beach/SUP and maybe some offshore fishing. We stay in Frisco because the beach is gorgeous (better than Avon in every way), the houses aren't as close together as A...

Re: Best Way to Fly with Gear in 2017

I use a kite bag that says Golf on the outside. No problems, no one has ever checked contents. Fits two kites and a board with fins off and footpads on. Not charged, but I fly on Air Canada.

Re: Cabrinha Apollo

Was out Sunday on 12M switchblade. We had and 8M Apollo with us just in case the wind picked up, we wanted to try it. The wind was decent but didn't ramp up, but being smart-asses we pumped up the Apollo just to see if it really measures up, if we could kite. Wow. Not only could we kite, we went upw...

Re: looking for kite lessons vacation

Fellow Canadian here, +2 for OBX and Ty. Will be there Monday for two weeks! If you are new to kiteboarding or still improving its a no brainer to go with Ty. Unlike most others, Ty teaches from a boat. This is invaluable when learning. You can take a break, grab a bite or a drink, in total comfort,...

Re: Hatteras

What FLandOBX said, knows his stuff. I go almost every July or August, have never been skunked, have come close though. If you are there for a week you should be good. Problem in July isn't staying warm, its cooling off, its hot (in the sound, ocean cooler. Or maybe its just my Canadian blood, can't...

Re: Reasonably Priced KB Instruction in the OBX

Second Ty. When I started out I did tons of research and he was the obvious choice. He teaches from a boat. And he separates the skills. Trust me, this is important and will speed up your learning. On a boat, you can get out of the water and talk, you can try different boards, and even different kit...

Re: Disrespectful French-Canadian's

Thanks Charles for coming on the board to clarify a little bit, very kind of you. Gives us all a better idea of what happened and some of the players. Thanks to you and your friends for speaking to this person after the fact, very classy. Hopefully this is a lesson to all of us - poor behaviour isn'...

Re: Disrespectful French-Canadian's

A little background and a couple anecdotes before I give you my two cents. I am a bilingual Anglophone married to a French Canadian. We are good friends of Ty's and have gone on a couple trips with him, my wife and extended family (French Canadians). Ty has taught my wife and a very good friend of m...
