Re: Spitfire-cannards in general

A PS about tuning the DIY project: measured the mast angle, 3 degrees down. Both the wings also have different angles too, so all in all, there's some science going on. No wonder my caveman diy version didn't quite work. Atomic C has his work cut out for him.

Re: Spitfire-cannards in general

I just bought a used spitfire 3-wing setup, with my loan/demo prompting Atomic's thread. I am LOVING the spitfire so far, I expected a learning curve to get used to it, but first try on the XXLW, it just fit immediately ... stable and nice turning. Last few sessions I've focused on XLW, fast and car...

Re: Spitfire-cannards in general

Seems to be about 14 people in the world interested and I'm one of them. I made a g10 copy of the original spitfire, sized up 30-50 percent, but never got the balance worked out, so gave up the experiment. Though I did get a taste of the rear foot bias in turns and really liked it. I have been ridin...

Re: New Wave Kite

Interesting how regionalized kite choices are. I am obviously not paying enough attention and have become disconnected from the mainstream ... I've never heard of a Naish Boxer. Where I live, Ocean Rodeo dominates, as their HQ is just down the road. The Roam is solid wave kite. I hear the edi...

Re: Full face helmet for foiling?

Gath full face visor gives some additional protection, thought it warps vision a little. Are you just learning? I suspect you'll find it's a non issue pretty quick for kite foiling. Sup and surf foil ... a little longer, as there's a lot more dynamic forces at play, was scary at the start. And still...

Re: Transitioning from Boat to Kite

You are going to find it laughably easy, much the same except you now get to drive the boat too! :thumb: One difference is the pull is slightly more up than forward (that's a slight positive). Now that you've dialed in riding the wake without the rope, you are ready to drift the kite and surf the wi...

Re: Kite Spots in Comox, Canada

Two resources: 1. http://www.bigwavedave.ca/wiki/index.php/Sailing_Guide 2. https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=comox%20valley%20kiteboard%20crew I don't live there, but do visit occasionally. Can get pretty good in the south-east gales in winter, just need a good wetsuit/drysuit. Summer I think ...

Re: Saddest day in the history of the surf sport - Drama in the Netherlands

Thanks Bracuru for posting the photos. Rather than getting lost in the statistics or the detached situation analysis, this is the human element. These were fun-loving and adventurous young men, they were buddies and sons and partners. And but for freak chance of fate, wrong place at the wrong time o...

Re: The reason to wing. Can't do this with a kite

... and this wing right now is the lacey lingerie that just makes it even better. that's pretty good. Curious what you have for a wing? I've got the 5.3 and 3.6 Naish S25's on order. I have 7m Gong Gen1 and a 4m Ozone V1. I started with a Gong 5m, but knew right away it didn't have enough low...

Re: The reason to wing. Can't do this with a kite

I am 20 sessions in, so far have only had 1.5 sessions with legit surf, and it's everything I have dreamed about. Whip in, then luff the wing, and surf foil it independent of wind power, and then at the end of the wave power back up, get outside and do it again and again. Yes, I could have done the ...
