Re: Hydrofoiling: Why you need a short mast - Foil Fridays

I think these foil Friday videos are more a marketing tool for the shop making them. And tend to the sales side of the information highway. Maybe short masts are on sale this week? For learning a short mast helps at a very small section of the learning curve. More likely moves the problem to anothe...

Re: Hydrofoiling: Why you need a short mast - Foil Fridays

I fully agree. I recently went back to a shorter (71cm) mast for traveling (it fits nicely in a normal suitcase) while I am usually on a "normal" 91cm. For normal riding, no issues, but BIG disadvantages for more advanced stuff (all the The main disadvantage for me is the much smaller margin for er...

Re: Hydrofoiling: Why you need a short mast - Foil Fridays

Cor... But I thought I was feeling a definite improvement in nice super tight swell and wave carve response on a shorter 91cm Onda mast vs the 101 Ghost Whisperer mast. Oh... Maybe 91cm isn't considered "short"? I think 91cm (36") is considered standard for kite foiling. 101cm is considered "long",...

Re: Wingsurfing - Intel - forum topic?

All of these questions add up to an unknown future for wingsurfing. This year should shed some light on whether it has the excitement to take kiters away from kiting. Next year, we should see some lessons pop up and see if new entrants to windsports divide between kiting and wingsurfing. The follow...

Re: What are the Differences between an Wave kite and a Freeride Kite

not as much as the industry makes out though- watch ben wilson wave riding videos from 2006... better riding than 99.99% of waveriders today., With a primary interest in surfing with a kite, I was all over the Ben Wilson instructional videos! He seemed to be the first or main kiter really focused o...

Re: What are the Differences between an Wave kite and a Freeride Kite

Someone more qualified than me will provide a detailed explanation, with aspect ratios and other scientific principles. But I'll give you the gist of it from my experience. Wave kites are designed to drift, so that when you are surfing a wave, even moving directly at the kite, they will just sit the...

Re: Wingsurfing - Intel - forum topic?

Fair enough bragnouff. From a kiter perspective, other than highly constrained circumstances, this may be a step backwards. But look at it through eyes of a sup foiler or surf foiler and it opens up similar possibilities. These people don't use wind. Being propelled into waves or downwind swell with...

Re: Wingsurfing - Intel - forum topic?

Straw poll - so is anyone buying one? -1 At $700-1000US = $1000-1500 Canadian...no. But if Gong extends its disruptive attitude to this too, gets price below $500, maybe. And once AliE starts dumping the unbranded clones for $200, probably. ;-) But the question is posed to the wrong people ... kite...

Re: Wingsurfing - Intel - forum topic?

Informative video, thanks Scott. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Must be at least 10 companies now chasing the rainbow. 1 strut, 2 strut, leading edge strut, adding a boom, etc. I wasn't a windsurfer in the 80s, but I get the feeling this is how it went....many small players al...
