Re: Kitefoil in waves footage

Lots of coral heads in Mauritius, hence I guess the short mast. I had my first kiting lesson there in 2004, in a bay at the back without coral, after spending the morning on rental windsurfing gear at low tide almost ripping the fin off on coral in the main bay at Le Morne. I'll go back one day, I h...

Anyone else kiting in Cape Hatteras this week? We booked this week as soon as we found out the Outer Banks were opening up, and now Tropical Storm Arthur is headed our way with considerable uncertainty about its exact path and hence what winds we will get, with and without rain. Today looks medium e...

Re: How do you find people to kite with?

Or just go down to Juno beach on a windy day and start talking to folks. Most kiteboarders are friendly and helpful. If you encounter an nice person who is uncommunicative, just move on. Juno Beach is often straight onshore, which is tough for a beginner, but if side-on is safe as you can only get w...

Re: Covid-19 - Resuming Kiting, In Time

wynnmandy, before you spout off in your very first post here, read up a little on the diverse responses in the US to the 1918 "spanish/kansas" flu and their consequences. Lockdowns can make an enormous difference, indeed pretty much the only alternative once you have lost control of the virus via te...

Re: Begginner Questions

Just a guess, I'd bet the vast majority of kiters in Madison learned elsewhere, like Cape Hatteras or maybe Lake Michigan. It is just so much easier to learn in a place like Cape Hatteras with shallow, warm, endless water and qualified intructors. I lived and windsurfed in Madison for five years in ...

Re: Begginner Questions

I have watched a person get launched and knocked unconscious with unknown consequences (they were taken off to hospital) trying to fly a kite like that on land in such conditions. You are not being careful as you don't know yet all the things that can go wrong with a 14m kite in 20mph gusts. At a mi...

Re: Covid-19 - Resuming Kiting, In Time

Lake Carlyle in southern Illinois has been open to all activities throughout, so we have had three sessions down there over the past few weeks (which of course defies our stay-at-home and no-unnecessary-travel orders). Our local Clinton Lake in Central Illinois opened for boating, with the restricti...

Re: Nick Jacobsen becomes 'a warrior at King of the Air'

That's really cool. Nick is one of the friendliest pros on the beach, even to old farts like me who want to say Hi and wish him good luck in the KOTA. I love his mischievous spirit and off-the-wall adventures. His crane climb and jump will always be the craziest kite stunt. A few years ago I noticed...

Re: How strong is Aluula? Aluula vs Dacron Load Test

$2,500 is a premium of at least $1000, solely due to a new canopy material??? I think I'll wait and see how it holds up!
