Re: Jumping fully powered

Always when possible I ride overpowered. I use an 9 and 11m rebel, dont need a smaller size for big jump, the kite trimmed loose performance I really hate and sometimes I trimmed just to go a bit up wind but for jumping golf I have do trim I have to change the kite. Until 30 knot I am on my 11m You...

Re: Ultimate November Kite Spot

South Africa only works if you are willing to hang out at Langebaan 1.5 hours north of the city where there is flat water for the beginners. November is not the most consistent month for wind here, but by the end of November we usually have strong SEasters getting going.

Re: Offshore windshift ---> Lost Kite

So I have actually done this, sort of. I wrote it up for KiteForum a few years ago, but briefly, was riding in sideshore conditions doing long gybes in and out on a downwinder and my 16m old Bularoo lost the main valve somewhat less than a mile offshore. I coiled up my lines and released the kite (I...

Re: Kiteboarding Travel Guide: Langebaan South Africa

That's pretty well done, not much to find fault with. Personally I find Langebaan boring now, just flat water, but 10 years ago it helped me get comfortable in Cape Town. I usually go up there for one or two days each season for a change of pace and to visit the West Coast National Park that the lag...

Re: Wingsurfing - Intel - forum topic?

Back in the early 1980's a friend in Madison, Wisconsin made a canvas on bamboo "kite" like this for wind-driven ice skating with racing skates, it was a lot of fun.

Re: North kiteboarding 2020

Makes no sense for an "old North" kiter to go to "new North" just because of the name (and by the way, Lowell North himself died last week - https://www.sail-world.com/news/218186/Remembering-Lowell-North), but I could understand going to third brand either because of price or disgust. I still find ...

Re: Crack in spreader bar - still OK?

Agreed, toss it. I had the hook on my bar break off at the welds, not fun! Luckily not in the middle of a big jump.

Re: If you had to re-buy all your kites tomorrow, what would you get?

Well, after 15 years of kiting it is hard to get exciting about one particular model. They all ride the same to me, or, at least, good windy conditions make much more of the difference than a particular kite brand/model. Therefore, I would just go for the lowest fire sale I could see on the web. I'...
