Re: Could a foil racer beat an AC75 around a course?

Thanks Gunnar, if you know them, suggest they ask the loser of the Prada Cup semifinal for a race! With some video!

Re: Could a foil racer beat an AC75 around a course?

Thanks.
It would still be fun if a top kite foiler in New Zealand could do a race against whichever boat is knocked out of the Prada Cup next weekend. Something for them to do with the boat before it gets sent to a museum or chopped up.

Could a foil racer beat an AC75 around a course?

Someone asked me if a top kite foil racer on his perhaps $10,000 gear could beat an AC75 with 11 crew on a $10m boat around a race course. I said probably not, but I don't really know. Anybody have an actual measurement of the upwind speeds of a foil racer, do they come close to the 30-40 knots thes...

Re: Please help to open SA beaches for kitesurfers

Okay, here's some more suggestions. Book three or four nights in Kruger National Park, fly to Joburg and rent a car. Enjoy the drive through the northern edge of the Drakensburg and the park is magnificent. We did that with two visiting kite friends last January and it was awesome, lots of lions, el...

Re: Please help to open SA beaches for kitesurfers

Good for Kevin not to break the rules, no matter how frustrating. At the end he suggests ways to get into the water without touching the beach! How about a tow-up behind a car and then glide down to water? Just hard to get back out without touching the beach! Anyway, I'm beyond sad that I am not in ...

Re: Wider bar oder longer front lines?

There is a guy in Cape Town called Alan who is one of the best strapped directional waves riders there. When I am on a 7m in strong conditions he is routinely on his 5.5m Cabrinha Nomad. And he uses the widest bar he has for it, says it allows him to crank really fast kite turns back and forth as he...

Re: Too many mistakes to list

For those interested, here's the previous regular video from this gang as they get through the cyclone. There were incredibly lucky in so many ways. They decided to go north to avoid it initially as the predicted path was a direct hit on the southern island they and everyone else was sheltering on (...

Re: Avalanche video

That was heart stopping just to watch, try to imagine what it felt like for him. YIKES!

Did he get flung up into the air by the upblast of wind from the front of the avalanche catching his kite?

Okay, once my shoulder recovers I will try that method.
