Re: Kite for Beginner Switchblade or Reach

Yup, choose the smaller bar as getting a 6 or 7m kite is a lot more fun than getting a 15 or 17m kite, and cheaper! I have that smaller Navigator bar, and nearly bought a Reach last year and may yet buy the 12m this year. Stayed with Pivots instead.

You upset he flew out of camera view? I wanted to see the release and landing!

Re: Nicked in London today Nomad LW Kiteboard

Me too. Never recovered any of the three boards and three kites stolen from my garage in Cape Town over a year ago now. Spent several months monitoring local Gumtree, Facebook, etc ads every day, plus contacted all the local kite shops. They probably just sold them for pennies to locals on the beach...

Re: Pivot deforming in high winds?

Instead today I had our perfect local lake day when the forecast and reality was for a SW wind coming right down the throat of our lake, starting out light and building all afternoon. So I can make our difficult drift launch on one kite, today 10m Pivot, and ride foil board first, then come in for s...

Re: Pivot deforming in high winds?

Here's Sam's video. Couple points. I would have been like his friend on a 5m, and might still have destroyed it. Also, he says he jumped higher than in Cape Town, which is possible as Cape Town almost never gets to 50 knots. And he pumped his 8m super hard.

Re: New to Kiteboarding, where to learn?

Ricki has the best plan for you. Do lessons with your brother. My friends and I all learned at OBX because it is just too hard to learn in our local midwestern lakes. About 20 people over the past 15 years. A few took lessons, but mostly we taught each other and watched videos, etc. We rent several ...

Re: Pivot deforming in high winds?

All I know is that I have no idea what happens not just to a pivot but to any kite in 50 knots. This is a question that I'm not brave enough to go out in conditions to know the answer. I've seen gusts to 50 mph on our local lake and it was downright scary. On a 7m Pivot, getting lofted is no fun (I...

Or make your next pump a Naish pump. The hose to adaptor connection is precise on mine.

Re: Recommendations - video tutorials

Might be best with such a short board to simply work on doing the single hop to the new stance. You will still fall off a lot, but once you get it you will be happier than doing the two-step. The trick for me is to do it on an upstroke of the kite immediately after the gybe, it gives you just enough...
