Re: Twintip straight to foil....

I'm looking to get my first setup and give it a go. I'm solely a twintip rider ATM, did you get some skills on the surfboard before trying foiling or anyone go straight from TT to foil and find it OK? I'm looking at either F-one (IC6 and 51ts) or slingshot (hover glide fkite and alien air/dwarf cra...

Re: Splicing fid doesn't fit

Pemba. I have found wire needles on line now, but my finest needle is still my home made one. I don't remember the note it plays! If you are talking flying lines they can be tricky particularly if they have been used. They can take a lot of loosening up and I have given up on an old line on occasio...

Re: What is the lowest wind you can kite in?

Not sure what to think about that. Less than 4 knots, less than 3 even sometimes ? I'm wondering if he isn't influencing the wind with his body. Kite looks incredibly stable for 3 point something knots. But I wasn't there.

Re: Splicing fid doesn't fit

Fids are not the same as needles in my book. I do a fair amount of splicing for kite gear and rarely if ever require a fid. In fact you can pretty much do it all with a wire needle, even a homemade wire needle made from an old guitar string! If you can, swop the fid for a wire needle. Exception mig...

Re: That guy is dangerous

Ah downsey! I was hoping we could get to some unfinished business. First off, I have never laughed about insurance. BUT I do find it ironic that you are grandstanding about you having insurance over your kite activities. But you have no product liability, or engineering insurance for the helmets yo...

Re: North valve discs???

has anyone come up with a fix for the useless plastic discs that hold the north valves in place? i have 3 North kites 2 of which have practically disintegrated, these discs started cracking at 1st but now have completely gone to the point the valves disappears inside the kite, its near on impossibl...

Re: That guy is dangerous

Full safety gear while having no awareness, rigging to big for skill, first time in the waves with tons of other people around, not looking when turning, etc, etc. 'That guy is dangerous'. This is a perfect example of a simple, but complete, breakdown in basic logic. Let me re-write the above to pl...

Re: Learning to Waterstart - How much downwind pointing

I'm a complete beginner on a hydrofoil but I think one relevant difference is that with a twintip you aim to get planing as soon as possible after which you can start upwinding etc. From a startposition you do this by accelerating fast with a quick turn downwind. With a foil as a beginner I think yo...

Re: That guy is dangerous

3. Should safety devices be actively promoted as Matteo does or should everybody mind their own business. Matteo is promoting them because he believes they are safer and because he thinks the government/regulation might step in if they aren't taken up on a bigger scale I think. In the end, without ...

Re: That guy is dangerous

I have to side with Matteo. I think this thread can be summarized as: 1. Are safety devices perceived as "cool" or "uncool" and does this perception influence their use. Everybody can answer this question for themselves. Personally I have to admit that I find them "uncool" and although I don't have ...
