Re: The Triton X-1 Monofoil for Winging

Curious. A look on the tritonfoils website looks like it's just comprised of a 6 lofted foil sections a side. And I thought my own hobby foil R&D budget was low  Lucky that kiters have power to waste through the harness. Has anyone figured out why Triton are using such an old fashioned slow fo...

I think jyoder had the phrase GAS, gear acquisition syndrome
Yes. Still have all the wings I've designed bar one I made and sold custom to a kiter.
I think 11 front foils and several rear foils. And the latest is the best. Feels like my go-to foil in most winds now.

Re: Foil wings are like wines...

I build my own. I've gone from huge cnced ply to laminated over 3D core to carbon in clamshell moulds from my 3D designs. 2022 my designs had amazing lift and low stall speed, fun feeling, this year I've put some of that with speed and loving the results.

Re: How to build a hydrofoil by Flukes Kitesurfing

Without taking the time to watch(I've built a lot of my own wings), any particular reason for combining the glass fibre and carbon fibre given that the two have very different modulus, tension break points and that the glass fibre doesn't really add anything to the carbon except weight?

Re: Nothing New on the Gear Builders Forum

My gear building over the last few years has all been winging stuff. Popped out 5 new foils 2022, had a bit of a rest last year, only made a super high aspect 1.33M wing that was a bit flexi under my 115KG and this year I've designed a 1430sqcm x 850 wing, a 1020sqcm x 900 wing and a 360 HA stabilis...

Re: Tubercle wings and my moulding process

Interesting interview Onda. One piece undercarriage and thin foils has to be great for speed. French so they had local Takuma Kujira to compare with. Or maybe same designer? The foils look very similar.

Re: Tubercle wings

2024 and no tubercle hydrofoil wings? Seems like there are performance advantages that could be utilized. Wondering if current design tools, analysis tools or manufacturing processes don’t support the shaping? Additional production costs? Marketing risks too high? Or maybe prototype testing identif...

Re: Wing profile info for backyard hydrofoil builders

Referring to the paper of Albion Bowers Prandtl-D wing or an update of the 1933 Prandtl paper which was discussed earlier here: Short summary of the paper: Ludwig Prandtl submitted two ideal solutions to minimise induced drag on a wing: 1910 Elliptical lift distribution (least drag for a given wing...

Re: Axis front wings ART or HPS?

I don't ride the Axis wings but a lot of the locals do. From what I've heard, you want the ART series and at your weight, the two smaller ones. Second to smallest would be your go-to foil. I make my own foils to suit the black Axis fuselage but my current ones are optimised for low speed efficiency,...
