Re: Wing surface area definitions?

No chord or AR? Thickness is handy too, with all that you can make an educated guess about how it'll feel... Snip... You get width, chord and AR on rear wings... Yes, span is also labelled, and max thickness and volume, on Gong wings. You dont need (max) chord or AR, as it is implicit when you got ...

Re: Wing surface area definitions?

True, about the home built calculation. But in the example above with the two wings, the first one is the thick one, and the second one the thin one. With less sweep and higher AR though, but a lot thinner profile. So if it was based on thickness/volume, Then one would think the "Felt area" should b...

Re: which aquaseal is the right one?

What was the difference between "Aquasure" and "Aquaseal"?

They co-existed, and both worked fine, but I never found out if a copycat or different properties?

Wing surface area definitions?

I wonder how different brands measure surface area? Thickness, camber, profile (giving a semi useless number "volume" but better than nothing) is of course what dictates the lift and drag, but if we look merely at the wing area manufacturers give us: Gong t.ex has three measures I can see on their w...

Re: Flysurfer Peak 4

Peak4 wave catchers - Do you play with the kite while on the wave ? or just park it 11/13 o'clock ? I have ridden the 5m , on an onshore wind , blowing around 12-15 knots , and tried to test the drift everyone is talking about here . I have catch a wave , not too big one , and the peak folded and f...

For the mentioned wind range you need a smaller peak..

Agree, a 3 m2 starts from 15 knots on a wave kitefoil, but above 25 I would never use it.
So should be for short periods only, survival.

Re: Flysurfer Peak 4

I went the other way... Used 21 m lines at first with the 8 m2, but for me hopeless, no work space and no power when looped. So using 27-28 m lines now, spot on for me. I only ride this kite in 8 max 9 knots though (78 kg) On the smaller kites 6-5-4-3 I find 21 meter to work well :thumb: I have only...

Re: How did I get two pinhole punctures in the leading edge?

Spot on - it can happen soooo easy, without seemingly any cause... I would just be happy Hugh, that you have had so few of these - others at spots with more "lurky" ground, are used to this - and still, you never know when and why it happens  I've had two holes in my bladder on a wing, where i...

Sorry, I think we are responding to two different things here

Many of us are responding to bodydragging sideways, but maybe he meant going dead downwind?

Re: Why FS should consider adding a 23m Sonic 3 to their lineup

Both kites have a comfortable top end for me around 20 knots. I weigh 190 LBS and I have been flying foil kites for many years. Are you sure you didn't mean 20 MpH? When it's blowing consistent 20 knts, I'm boosting my 12m2 Blade trigger up to 10m or more.... Here you're talking 80% more surface in...
