Re: Board Build #2

Very happy to report that I got out in 10-15knots on 10m switch element 5 today and had a great 2 hours on the water with it. Very happy overall. Board - not much to say about a board except that worker just like a board should and is a significant improvement over my last one. The lighter weight an...

Re: New North Foil's 'PA Carbon Mix 50'

I was in our local wind/sup/kite shop yesterday and saw a neil pryde prototype windfoil with the fuselage and wings made from the exact same material. When I first looked at it I wonder whether it might have been polycarbonate and carbon. I've used large twintip fins made from PC and glass and they ...

Re: Board Build #2

Nice build please report back how it holds up! Why did you use basalt glass? Just for the looks or any added strength, stiffness, etc? I'm not sure it was absolutely necessary but I'm so used to building much heavier, stronger structures that a single layer just seemed a bit light on and I want thi...

Re: Board Build #2

If you managed an xps core with anything containing styrene over it and didn't have a meltdown I'm impressed. The flowcoat was over the fully cured epoxy which also had any pin holes filled in so it never came in contact with the foam. I did drip some on a piece of foam cut off and she melted insta...

Board Build #2

The windy season is just starting up in Sydney and after much longer than expected I finally finished my next board (bought the foil this time). Specs are 115cm x 43cm 50mm rocker (basically bugger all because with such a short board there is no point trying to recover a nose dive, just have to avoi...

Re: Slingshot Hover Wings...what are they?

My guess is polycarbonate with chopped glass fibres. I've bought twin tip fins from Taiwan made this way and they are strong and light.

Re: Chinese KB Hydrofoil : 300 USD + shipment

I just bought one of these chinese foils. They had sold out of the plain finish carbon ones by the time I ordered after seeing a friend post it on FB so got a slightly more .......... decorated version. Arrived in 1 week. Good finish, feels solid. I've been riding a bang up DIY version for 18 months...

Re: Perfect Pitch ... WTF

Hi, It's 20mm square 6061 T5. My first fuselage was 1" square but it felt like overkill. I just wanted try smaller for the sake of weight and although I was hoping to get T6 temper my local supplier didn't have and could track any down. The risk was it may bend but after a lot of use and few big hit...
