Re: Oceanus kite reels: I still see them

Seen some foil board and foil kite self rescues which look scetchy even when demonstrated in flat water. Attach to your gear while you pack the kite down to reduce stress, free hands. Maybe helpful. I think I did about 6 packdown and swims last month I was really stretching my limits. It's incredib...

Re: Any tips for a heavy and tall beginner ?

Yeah, I'm heavier than you, it's fine. Number 1: Get lessons. Then you want a board a bit bigger than all the "normals"I ride a 145/45 in most conditions with a monster door for light wind, you can drop this down when you know what you're doing but a big board makes it that much easier to learn. 10m...

Re: Another UK Kitesurf Fatality

RIP to another fellow sailor. In answer to a previous question yes the UK is gusty wind the majority of the time. We dont really get thermal winds good enough for kiting unless its peak summer. People go out on storm winds that may be boosted by thermal effects. Sometimes its 'only' 5knt gusts, usu...

Re: Camber fatality

I don't even know how this got into a debate about helmets!

Does anyone actually know what happened to the poor guy this thread was originally about?

RIP fellow kiter.

Re: Helmets ... old news!

Wear a helmet, don't wear a helmet.

Do whatever you want.

No one cares.

My experience is it is what is downwind that is the problem not whether you launch toward or away from the sea.
Absolutely agree.

Re: A good spanking by mother nature.

I got rinsed in Durban late last year, was away for work, rented some gear and set off into unfamiliar territory, the wind was unreliable and the kite was poorly trimmed, managed my first tack away from the beach but the kite wouldn't stay airborne, hindenburged into the surf, spent a few minutes in...

Re: Beginner with ultra long lines - intervene or not?

"Intervene" is a strong word for suggestions about someone's equipment choice. I like to offer assistance ("need any help?" or "let me know if you need any help"), but I wouldn't intervene unless someone was in a crisis and about to get hurt or hurt someone else. I know an older guy who is an excep...

Re: Old/Ancient gear - what is it good for?

....Absolutely nothin' say it again? Sorry lol! I spend money on gear, not that I have loads of excess to do so (and I'll always look for a bargain) but I try to keep my gear as new as I can afford. For the simple reason that I just want to kite, there's almost nothing I hate more than getting to th...
