Re: Flysurfer Peak 4

I have always hot-launched my Peaks as it seems like the most straightforward way to launch them - using less beach space & allowing for simplicity & 100% success rate even in light or shifty side shore winds. This involves sanding the trailing edge. With the (rare) onshore wind I set it up as norma...

Re: Flysurfer Peak 4

Ran into a new situation yesterday: all my sessions using Peaks so far (about 50) have involved a solo hot launch. I'm launching either in side-on winds or on a deep sandy beach where there is no problem hot launching. However ... yesterday the wind at my local spot was almost dead onshore. I set up...

Re: Flysurfer Peak 4

The Peak cannot tweak physics. Exactly! Any kite needs some line tension to stay in the air. However, because of its lightness & efficiency, the Peak needs less than others. Only a minimal amount of line tension will keep shape in the Peak. When you are moving, your board speed creates apparent win...

Re: Flysurfer Peak 4

Peak4 wave catchers - Do you play with the kite while on the wave ? or just park it 11/13 o'clock ? I have ridden the 5m , on an onshore wind , blowing around 12-15 knots , and tried to test the drift everyone is talking about here . I have catch a wave , not too big one , and the peak folded and f...

Re: Aluminium vs Carbon Mast - Cost vs Benefit

I'm very happy with my carbon rig from Gong. I think I would have to have another session on the alu set up to see how noticeable the difference is compared to the carbon. Regardless, it's nice to have the carbon: carrying it, getting it in & out of my car (I keep it assembled), swimming with it, st...

Re: How did I get two pinhole punctures in the leading edge?

I've had various punctures to bladders over the years. I don't think I've ever had a hole due to salt or sand ... & I've never experienced a situation where something was lodged in the LE other than that one time. Clearly anything's possible under certain circumstances. Like for instance: I recently...

Re: How did I get two pinhole punctures in the leading edge?

Cautionary tale: a few years ago I pumped a new kite at Kite Point, Hatteras. Flipped it over & laid out my lines, did an assisted launch & kited for an hour or so. Landed the kite & noticed it was soft. That night I took the bladder out & found a pin hole. Literally, the only time the kite had touc...

Re: New Gong foils

Hi Flyboy, I confess having had very different impressions moving to a V.2 carbon mast. When I switched from the 100 Carbon V.1 to the V.2 I was extremely surprised at the difference in feeling: the board seemed "stiffer" under my feet, actually more fatiguing, but also way more reactive. And appar...

Re: Ultimate foil for surf skate like quick carves?

Oh, re: winging...I think the Peak4 is the answer for kite foilers who aren't happy with the freedom to surf how they might want. I've shared sessions with pretty good wingers and get better rides, more rides and generally do circles around them. I'll trying winging one day to try something new, bu...

New Gong foils

I recently picked up a new 85cm Carbon mast/fuselage (after a long wait for availability). I can't say there's a huge difference between my V1 alu foil. It does feel a little more solid & stable underfoot &, of course, it's lighter, although not by a huge amount - about 700 gms. The V2 alu foils hav...
