Re: The future of foiling

The windy season is fading here in Southern Baja Mexico...been flat for the past few days. A friend shot this with his iPhone, not the best quality, but will give you the idea of what 'Just Cruzin' Around' can be... It reminds me of skiing powder...but MUCH warmer!! I hope you enjoy https://youtu.b...

The future of foiling

Obviously, at the minute wing foiling is dominating the agenda ... but as an experienced kite foiler I'm not sure that winging is the most useful next step as it basically overlaps with kite foiling. More useful would be the ability to surf when there is no wind. I'm wondering what the best route to...

Re: Dominican Rep: Cabarete or Las Terrenas

Thank you all soooo very much for this fantastic and helpful input! It's making me even more excited about our upcoming trip! I know the "wind situation" is more hit-or-miss than ever with El Niño wreaking havoc, but lets see. By the way, if any of you ever come to Cuba...get in touch. We are in Ha...

Re: Peniche Portugal or somewhere else?

I spent three weeks in the area near Peniche a few years ago. It was not always windy, but when it was the wind was from the North East and in the 15 - 20 knot range. The beach for kitesurfing was just north of Baleal. The wind tended to be side on (fairly onshore actually) with quite large shore br...

Re: Windrange on foil - what kite to get?

Oh awesome! Quite a lot of testing! How does the sst compare to the ghost and ufo on foil? I'm interested/looking at all 3 haha. I know people using both Ghosts and UFOs in different sizes - they seem to much prefer the UFO. My daughter recently bought a quiver of 2023 SSTs. Unlike a lot of earlier...

Re: Windrange on foil - what kite to get?

10-19 is a wild range. For foiling I’d only recommend the UFO which I’ve been riding for last 4.5 years, since the day they were released and they’re just perfect. Single strut kites tend to generate more unnecessary power in tacks/loops and don’t provide as much support in zenith which is good to ...

Re: The Hybrid from Flysurfer

This is relevant if you have to land solo in high winds without a helper of a catcher or a wind shadow. Sometimes you cannot avoid a tangle in those situations. Basically, landing a Peak or Hybrid in a wind shadow - or very light wind - avoids most problems with tangling. If it lands on a windswept...

Re: Aluula 3 strut - Evo vs NVision vs Hypermodel

I have never used an Aluula kite (I use Peaks for foiling myself), but have observations of their use in Cabarete. There is a guy with a 12m Evo who is able to go out foiling in what appears to be about 5 knots of wind. Quite impressive - similar low wind performance to a large foil kite (although n...

Re: Wingfoil is building faster than everything

The skilled wingers here are long-past fighting through the shorebreak. They just walk out on the jetty and jump off; into relatively clam water. …something I’m not willing to attempt, even with a tiny hydrofoil kite… I don't get it: you can "just walk out on the jetty and jump off"? Fine ... I gue...

Re: Wingfoil is building faster than everything

No doubt about it. Sure, people do occasionally damage their kites, but from what I've seen, wing damage seems far more frequent - putting the foil through the canopy, falling on the wing and ripping it, puncturing the bladders. And then there's the risk to life and limb, especially in shore break ....
