Re: Learning to foil strapless from a surfing background

Yes, just do it. I've never used straps foiling from day 1. I started on the same set up as you - Hoverglide NF2 and Dwarf Craft 54". It was the heaviest, fastest sinking foil you could buy at the time. Within half and hour I managed a brief ride (2 or 3m) and was addicted. My avatar pic is actually...

Re: what are you workin on? kitefoil strapless freestyle progression

I'm currently learning strapless roll tacks - about 5% success, and toe to heel tacks - about 40% success. Main problem with both is having the kite in a position where I am powered enough to foil through the exit. I just need to send it harder at the end I think. The cold weather / water in the Per...

Re: Moses 2019-2020

I tried the 633 with 450, 330 and 425 and for me the 425 works best. 450 is very nice but too much front foor for my pocket board (had to shim it then it is +- OK), 330 was too unstable for my liking (lot of pitch). 425 is in between, faster then 450 and perfectly balaced for the 633. My son rides ...

Re: Moses 2019-2020

I've just bought a 683s wing and want some advice on good stabs. I'm into strapless free riding and am an intermediate foiler. I tend not to do long runs and like to turn lots in a fairly small area - a Drexler wanna-be I guess. I like doing tacks (heel to toe and toe to heel), 360s etc. I weigh 82k...

Re: Slingy Apollo 2020 wing...

Does anyone know how the weight of the SS Apollo 60 compares to the Moses 633? I'm (178 lbs/80 kgs) using the SS H2 (Gamma) now with a LF Galaxy 4'2" board. I'm intermediate level freeride, can jibe reliably with down loops in both directions, like to jump, starting to work on duck tacks and foot s...

So first thing you should do is sell the race foil and buy a Gong. Or any other locally available 1000-1200cm2 foil. After doing some shopping, I found a local foiler selling a cloud9 s24 with 1126 cm2 front wing surface area for a good price. https://cloud9surffoils.com/collections/complete-foil-s...

As TomW said above, learn to foil on a kite you feel comfortable with first - IE an LEI. Learn in moderate winds and choose a kite size that gives you easy power to get up onto the board for your weight. You will be able to learn on the foil you have, but it will be a longer and more painful road th...

Wow, where was this video when I was learning these?! Great footage and should really help those wanting to learn this fun and deceptively easy move.

Re: Getting most power out of a foil kite

Next time you are launching your foil kite in the hot launch position - I.E. in light wind - you will notice how little the kite pulls while you are waiting for it to gain pressure with the bar sheeted in. Even after it has fully pressurised while sitting in the power zone, it will pull very little ...
