Kiteboarding article in New Yorker

Great article about the history and the trial & tribulations of a newbie kiteboarder written by my kiter friend James that features interesting insight by Chris from KiteProvo in Turks.

Re: Aruba: Last Minute Travel

Context: I am a 60 year old intermediate twin tipper that just wants to jump, carve jibes and safely ride waves. This is only about Boca Grande and I am assuming nobody wants to kite the offshore winds up north near Fishermans and casino hotels, although the local kiters seem to have no problems kit...

Re: Aruba: Last Minute Travel

Kited Boca Grandi for a week this past May using a 6, 8, and 11m and stayed at Kite Inn close to the jail, 5 minutes from Boca. Kite Inn is convenient 2 star accommodation and the owner Arnold is a foil kiter extraordinaire who knows everything and everybody around the island.

Re: Stomach muscles

Sore abdominal muscles when starting to jump is very common.
I'm 60 years old and after a week of 3 sessions a day jumping, I can barely get out of bed.
It like a week snowboarding, Days 3 and 4 are the worst on the muscles, abs in particular.

Re: What lightwind kite should I choose for a small rider?

The 15m Sonic 2 is a great kite but tough to launch in under 8 knots of wind.

Re: summer kite spots near Haliburton (Ontario, Canada)

Maybe a boat launch from middle of the lake in Haliburton. As previous poster mentioned, those lakes are small with gusty, swirly wind. About 90 minutes SW by car on the east side of Lake Simcoe at Lagoon City or 9th Concession are popular spots for catching the prevailing SW, W and NW winds. Beginn...

oldest looper?

Who is the oldest kiter on this forum that routinely loops for added height on most jumps?

Re: Who ride with sunglasses, and where?

My opinion is that sunglasses are a must for kiting, no matter your latitude or what the weather is. The UV radiation in sunlight cooks your lenses and retinas and without protection, causes cataracts and other nasty conditions. I have a related question. Does anybody think the necklace that comes w...

Re: kite friendly airline

Just back yesterday from La Ventana, Mexico. United agent asked me what was actually in my "golf" bag and I replied (like a fool) honestly and replied: "a kite board".
$200 USD charge for one-way flight to Houston! Golf clubs would of been $35.
