Re: Best beginner destinations in the world?

I have kited most of the places mentioned. Long Bay in Turks during late June or any time in July is hard to beat. Steady winds, shallow warm water and safe downwind rescue are guaranteed.

I look forward to another series of posts on this thread Hugh2. I especially like the solo downwinder and you catching the bus back stories!

Re: Turks & Caicos - when is a good month to go kiting there

I have been kiting Long Bay Turks twice a year for many years and agree it is a light wind destination EXCEPT for late June and all of July, when the wind is excellent. The data from Gestalt above supports this. That being said, it is a wonderful spot and at higher tides, foil friendly as well. The ...

Re: Kiting in Toronto

For downtown: Cherry Beach for a SW wind. Hanlan on Toronto Island for a direct West and Ashbridges for E or S wind. Late June can be hit or miss. Toronto is about kiting weather fronts. Big kiting scene at Cherry, lots of everything and can even get a point break off the Dog Park after sustained SW...

Re: Ants and kites - no problem?

Ants can definitely be a problem. They are attracted to the glue in bladders/valves and especially like to make holes in bladders of new kites. Here is a previous discussion from this same forum:

kite quiver for Prea, Brazil mid November?

I am planning on bringing 6, 8 and 11m kites. All are old CORE XRs except the 6m is a squirrely FREE model. I’m a late middle-aged intermediate kiter, 80kg (180lb) on a small twintip barely beyond mowing the lawn and interested in (modest height) hooked-in jumps, downloop jibes and downwinders in ea...

Kite quiver in Maui, place to rent a board?

I'm going to Maui in mid August, am 80kg (178 lbs), ride a 136 x 42cm twintip and like to jump, carve my jibes and zoom down easy waves (not breaking big surf). I have 6, 8, 11 and 15m freeride kites. Which should I bring to Maui? Any recommendations on where to rent a board? Anything else I should ...
