Re: Cabrinha's new kite - AV8

I flew a 14 Velocity back to back with a 14AV8 on a hydrofoil. Bar pressure was much less with the AV8. Boost and hang time was far superior on the AV8 as well. The AV8 is a touch slower than the Velocity and also has a little less low end. I have been flying Apollos as my go-to kite for hydrofoil ...

Re: The Safety Topic: please post your experience and advice!

First of all, and this might be a surprise for many, we in Australia do NOT launch standing from the shore side. That got me big time in Europe. As seen on the podiatanapraia vid, the kiter launches standing from the shore. Instead, the kiter should be standing in the water, if lofted, it would end...

Also there’s special place in hell for people who shoot vertical videos

I hope OS developers set low-red as a default for vertical videos so people avoid that mode
Well, finally, somebody who hasn't lost focus of what's truly important! Good on ya, buddy!

And this is what happens when an instructor DOESN'T teach his students the importance of proper launch procedure.

Re: The Safety Topic: please post your experience and advice!

Hi Podiatanapraia, Well I'm glad you got back OK anyhow. That's a dicey situation. I can't think of any way to guarantee that the safety line won't get wrapped around your finger, or leg, or bar, or spreader bar hook, or neck... or that the other lines won't get wrapped around the kite or bridle if...

Re: The Safety Topic: please post your experience and advice!

I'd say that if you have to pull your quick release and work the whole way to the kite, you might as well finish your self-rescue because chances are pretty low that you'll be able to get everything back nicely into place for a relaunch. Hi Matt, In my case, it was worth trying. I was in a lagoon w...

Re: The Safety Topic: please post your experience and advice!

Hi everyone. I have a question, and if it's been answered here before, I apologize (but there's, like, 28 pages of experience to read through in this topic alone). I was out today with a 14m kite in strong winds. Great for hangitme, but a lot of power to hold. At one point the kite hit the water du...

Backrolls vs backside handle passes

Hi everyone. There's something I haven't been able to understand about how tricks are named. Let's say you're riding on a port tack (to your left) and you unhook and throw a backroll. That means you rotate your body away from the kite, turning to face upwind first (whereas, with a front roll, you wo...
