Re: We should be wearing sunglasses throughout the day and especially while kiteboarding! Why aren't we?

Do you have any evidence of polarized being significantly better than UV-protected sunglasses? Regarding the "you are in trouble anyways": yes, probably something has gone wrong when this becomes an issue. I just don't see why I should add bits and pieces of possibly sharp and pointy plastic to an a...

We should be wearing sunglasses throughout the day and especially while kiteboarding! Why aren't we? by IKO (...) Just like with helmets, wearing sunglasses while kiteboarding seems unfashionable and excuses like “I will lose them”, “They are annoying”, “They are expensive”, “Water droplets on the ...

Re: Duck Tack Tutorial (Strapless & Directional Series)

When I do this, I move the board upwind, but instead of completing the rotation with my body in the same direction, I turn my body back in the opposite direction. So kind of a 180 back, and then a 180 forward (the board still rotates around the full 360), instead of a 360 of the body and board like...

Re: Duck Tack Tutorial (Strapless & Directional Series)

I like how they make it seem so simple. :-) And then casually add, oh, you need good foot skills,... and excellent board turning. And yeah, steer the kite just right. My personal opinion: it needs quite some practice. The video is good advice, nevertheless. I just feel they could occasionally mentio...

Re: Hatteras to get another new bridge ... this one sucks.

Sorry for off-topic: Watching this video I wonder if it is totally legal to ride through the shallows as Rienstra does? It looks amazing and fun! :-) I am sure anything alike anywhere in Germany would be a nature reserve and kiting prohibited for whatever (sometimes very stupid) reason. :-( https://...

Re: (How not to?) Deal with 40 kt.+ sudden winds

This seems like another generalized discussion which simply cannot lead to a consensus. There are too many factors (weather conditions, level of experience, physical condition, etc.) that influence a smart decision. In some situations using the quick release (or both releases) is the only way to go,...

Re: New to this, is it realistic to teach myself?

Not sure why I feel the need to give my two cents, but here they are. DON'T. (start on your own) Simple as that. Two things you can (and in my opinion should) do on your own to maximize the effect of the lessons you will take are: 1. Get a small kite (nothing specific, a cheap fun kite below 1m² can...

Re: Glassy patches of water on calm sea?

Most likely it is just spots where there is even less wind (or none). A usual sight on calm days. I doubt environmental issues play a role in what you describe. However, the (vague) description certainly gives plenty of options. Try to get as high as possible (tower, hill, etc.) and take a look or (...
