Re: Wing profile info for backyard hydrofoil builders

Hi, I am following this thread with a great interests. Lots of great info, thank you! I just got into foiling myself (on slingshot hover glide nf2) and thinking that at some point I might end up printing a different foil that would fit into slingshot fuselage. Did anyone consider 3d printing a foil...

Re: Wing profile info for backyard hydrofoil builders

I use a 95cm or 100cm long, thin board for all my foils (Wave, freeride and race). So I wouldn't worry too much about the board (A bit of nose rocker is nice though). But if you are used to much larger wings, then it might take a session or so to get used to the the higher take-off speed needed. It ...

Re: Wing profile info for backyard hydrofoil builders

Hi Robke, I think the below freeride wing looks pretty good. 750 mm wingspan, 750 cm^2 area (It is just a touch larger than the theoretical minimum zone, but going down to 600-675 cm^2 only has a very small advantage). Recommended profile is the S2055. Make it in Polished aluminium would look aweso...

Re: Pocket board building

Lightweight plywood / Balsa plywood is another option that looks very suitable. It is quite widely available since it gets used for caravan building. 9 / 15 / 18 / 25 mm thickness options (in Australia). And comes in at a reasonable density of around 250 Kg/m^3. I haven't made a board from it myself...

Re: Trapped air in double skin foils?

For the smaller sizes, trapped air volume is likely less important because it has a relatively much smaller volume. For example, going from a 6m to a 15m, means area has gone up by factor of 2.5, but volume has gone up by factor of almpst 4. Small kites are also heavier per square meter compared to ...

Re: Wing profile info for backyard hydrofoil builders

Nice result! I know what you mean by it being shocking, pulling the wing out of the mould and going this is basically as good as finished.
