Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Dillon was good this afternoon. Kited on the north side with a 14m Frenzy all afternoon. Pretty steady WNW wind.

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Lots of open state and federal land south of Hartsel. Just drive south of Hartsel until you see open land with good snow coverage. Pretty wide open in that area. I went to Dillon today and it wasn't very good. Very gusty light wind most of the afternoon, so I rigged big. Then it kicked in late, 20s ...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Anthony, I'll need to check my calendar at the office on Monday, but I think your Grand Mesa Lodge plan for March 12, 13 and 14 looks good for me. You can put me down tentatively for now. Thanks for organizing it. Looks promising tomorrow at some of the places within my driving distance. I'll check ...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Kited on Grand Mesa this afternoon. Fluky winds but got some rides on a 19m foil kite. Decent coverage, had to steer around rocks here and there, but didn't hit any that were hidden. Knee deep snow. Had to do some postholing when the wind died at the end of the day, but luckily I'd walked in from th...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

008, my dad and sister live in northern Colorado so I'm down there every now and then. I was eyeballing the big open soccer fields at Sandstone Ranch Park near Longmont recently when I was down there for Thanksgiving, but the wind gods weren't being friendly, so I bagged the idea. Looks like you had...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

008, unfortunately I don't know anyone with a sled anymore that could pull us up to the Flat Tops and leave us there to ski or snowboard down. I had 2 snowmobiles which worked great for the Flat Tops and Vail Pass (Machine Gun Ridge), but I sold both of them a year or two ago. So I'm stuck being a p...

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

They paved Coffee Pot Road? And they plow it? Or are you talking about a different part of the Flat Tops? Where's Captain Fitz's?

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

I was wondering why I hadn't seen those rock formations on the Flat Tops here in my backyard. I was all set to look for them though. :D

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Incredible pics. The Flat Tops are awesome, just difficult to get to. Since I no longer have a sled, they're pretty much out of reach for me these days. Wish there were some park and ride spots up there, since they're practically in my back yard. Thanks for posting.

Re: Kite-o-rado Snowkite Conditions

Kitejumping, that was an enjoyable video. Thanks for posting it. I've had quite a few really good days at Dillon this winter, both sides of the lake. Chris, I'm sure you had a great time in Moab and camping on the way back. That's almost always a great place to go, especially this time of year. It w...
