Re: Looking for foil pumping advice

Hi all, here is quick update of one of my better attempts today. I think what took me so long (5-6 weeks, 2 hours a week) was that I had no experience foiling before. Today was a breakthrough day. I was on a buddy’s Infinity 99. The trick is not looking at your feet. Keep looking at the horizon http...

Re: Pocket board building

This is me not taking it too seriously. 20 minutes with a jigsaw and a hand plane. 4 T-nuts from the hardware store and I have a 20 dollar board. Didn’t even seal it.
Also pictured is his lil brother, still a fetus.

Re: Wing profile info for backyard hydrofoil builders

This is such an interesting thread for me, considering I am new to foiling and come from an aerospace background.I was wondering if your design tool can be used for tailless wings, and reflexed airfoils, and no/little sweep. It would be awesome to not have to build a fuselage or rear wing. And I am ...

Re: Pumping foil section/airfoil?

I am new to foiling, and I have been teaching myself to do it by dock starting. I know, probably the hardest way to learn, but I enjoy the challenge. I have been thinking about the ideal pumping foil recently as well. Can anybody weigh-in on the effect of the size of the rear stabilizer and fuselage...

Re: Looking for foil pumping advice

Hi all, thank you for the advice. Below is me after 5 sessions. What I realized, and it was said before many times is proper foot placement off the bat makes a huge difference. One thing I haven’t heard people say though, which made things “click” for me, was to not try and keep looking at the board...

Re: Looking for foil pumping advice

Thank you very much for the compliments, though I don’t feel like I deserved them. It is difficult!! But I had a blast! The foil is a 1900cm^2 LP foil, and I weigh 165 before breakfast 😬The board is a piece of plywood, 3/4inch thick, unfinished. It is a 20 minute project which is working as a tempor...

Looking for foil pumping advice

Hi all, Today was my first time foiling. No access to wind or a boat right now, so I started with pumping from a dock. It feels like balancing a pogo stick on a mechanical bull. I would really like some advice. I think my rear foot is too far forward. I am the guy in the white helmet. https://youtu....

Re: Plywood Foil Board

Thank you for taking the time to answer, Breze. I appreciate it! The LP has a lengthy mast, 100cm. Probable not the best for learning, but I got it for a great deal. 600 CAD. I was thinking of making the board longer to help with not catching my front edge while learning. I also have an older Liquid...

Re: Plywood Foil Board

Thanks Breze,
I am not familiar with a leash for Hydrofoils. Still so new to this that I have never tried foiling. Where would I attach the leash to Hydrofoil?

For board size, I am thinking about about 5ft x 22”

Re: Plywood Foil Board

Hello, for my foil board build, here is my plan: 1/2” XPS core 1/8” ply top and bottom 3/4” half round to cap the perimeter 1/2” x 6inch wide core between feet (also what the mast will bolt to) I doubt I will need more than a 4oz glass layer on top and bottom, though I am open to suggestions. I am h...
