The best stuff for me is Headhunter SPF #30 it won't come off until you wipe it off, best to carry a roll of paper towels in the ride, it's not clear (kind of skin toned) but it's the best I've used, It's available in local surf shops here in So. Cal. Also it won't sting your eyes.

First figure your priorities, do you want to ride strapless or with straps? do you want to surf waves or flat water, do you come from a surfing background or some other? If you come from a surfing background and want to surf waves your already way ahead of the game, to come from a non surfing sport ...

As an owner of a sonic 14 and a rebel 16 (both are great) The rebel wins in the low end and high end, I still have plenty of depower left on my rebel when I would be over powered on my sonic.
