Re: Chicken Loop & Fireball - Harness Modification

I think the old engineering expression " if it looks wrong it probably is wrong" applies in this case. However assuming the little cross beam is of similar spec to the main hook pillars a simplistic look suggests the horrible looking arrangement should handle the load; and so why is it wrong? It is ...

Re: Nice helmet with space for a neoprene cup/hood

The Gath Gedi may be worth researching. They used to come in large sizes with the option of leaving out some of the anular foam to cater for neoprene helmets. Not sure how relevant this advice is now as mine is quite a few years old.

Re: New control bar front lines shorter than back lines

If you haven't seen a decent vid on how to trim a kite take a look at this, With your long rears you will not be able to find the backstall point by just holding the bar all the way down with trim all out, but if you grab the floaters to pull the bar down you can pull in extra rear line to see how m...

Re: Effect of shorter lines to kite’s high end wind range

I believe a few years back the top racers were getting better vmg using 13 - 17m line sets. Anybody know if this is still the case?

Re: New control bar front lines shorter than back lines

It is not just the 2inch difference that can cause too much slack it's when the beginner trys to launch in winds towards the bottom of the kites range with the trim strap all in. This type of difference just compounds the issue. Also more likely if the beginner has had a few good days wellpowered be...

Re: Wow, he got so lucky!

I think the vid has been a good public service, and it has also made me think about similar scenarios, especially as i rarely do odd ball or difficult launches. However, when I do carry a kite out for a drift launch I don't have the leash on the bar I leash the kite. Once in the water I unwind the l...

Re: New control bar front lines shorter than back lines

If you only have 3mm dyneema that would also be fine. If you use a simple loop as a fly line connector use a figure of 8 knot and set it hard. If there is room to add figure of 8 knots on the rear leaders that would also be fine. If memory serves, a figure of 8 knot will lose ~30 mm in 3mm line. So ...

Re: New control bar front lines shorter than back lines

Sorry I don't know this particular bar and am not sure exactly what you are trying to describe. Presumably there are some connector pigs on the end of the fly linear that you can change/alter. If starting with bare loops on the line ends it is simple to add a knotted loop to the end of front lines u...
