The bar takes a bit of getting used to but with a bit of technique you can adjust the length of the front lines on the fly. Just ride downwind under the kite a bit with the bar eased and the pressure should come off. It isn't quite as nice as some of the newer bars though.

I think the problem with the MTB style of clip-ins is that you don't have anything solid to push against to clip in. On a bike its simple - put the pedal at the lowest point and it will push back against the foot. On a board on the water it wouldn't be so easy.
