Re: front wing finish

Paint is not necessary. Paint can actually slow down the hydrofoil's speed. That is what I heard back in the day with airchair hydrofoils, unfinished was faster.
Would you care to share the detailed specs of your build with others?

Re: Biggest kite for a surfboard?

I still use big kites from time to time. I prefer to use a 9M as my biggest kite in waves, but when that isn't enough, I welcome the power of a much bigger kite. I am getting away from using 12M kites anymore and do the 9M/~15M jump instead. In big kites, depower is overrated, turning speed is key. ...

Re: Stupid question - what does overpowered feel like?

Overpowered to me is dependent on the board I am riding: No board: If I can no longer keep my feet on the ground Twintip: When my back starts screaming and I can no longer go upwind, or hold my edge, having to jump (downwind) to spill power. I no longer have the balls to do megaloops. Surfboard: Whe...

Re: Leading Edge repair

If you can stick your hand inside the kite and reach the tear: I would put Dacron tape on the inside and Tear-Aid on the outside. IMO Dacron tape needs stitches to keep it from delaminating on the outside. Tear-Air will balloon out alone, so tough Dacron tape is needed to support the pressure of the...

Re: Line length question/observation

You didn't mention what size Cloud you were riding. (12M/17M)? I carry multiple bars with different line lengths. I prefer to match bar length and line length with the size of the kite. I like running short lines for ~5M kites which helps to smooth out the gusty conditions. I like running normal lin...

Re: Sea conditions you'd give up foiling and oppt TT or surfboard

Low tide = no foiling for me. When it is left in the car, I leave it covered. When the wind direction or magnitude make it difficult to stay upwind or get off the beach with a conventional shortboard, I opt for finless boards, or a longboard/SUP. I don't get to choose the days I ride based on favora...

Re: The Only Significant Advance in Kiteboarding in the past Decade is Foilboards.

The Rush Randle foilboard that I ride is from 2002. In terms of racing, I agree that the newer hydrofoils are a significant advance. I am still a fan and prefer the feel of classic c-kites (2004-2008) to sles (never cared for the waroo). I still haven't tried a strutless kite though. I am thankful f...

Re: Sharpie Marker removel on kite

Normally alcohol removes Sharpie, so it may be a different brand marker.

Pulleybar would be my recommendation: #Picture http://kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2348214 Check out the style of Top Hat on youtube :thumb: . https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tophatrules Works best with kites 10M and smaller imo, as the wind range of big kites is so small. If you w...
