Re: Use a kite as a wing surfer?

I think using a kite for wing surfing will not work very will. Wing surfers are flat(ish) and kites are not. The sewing to modify an old kite into a wing surfer looks pretty straight forward. I think I could do that with not too much trouble. The complexity for me is removing the centre section of t...

Re: Apple Watch Band

The pin on my band came out of the hole and the band opened a bit. It was under my wetsuit so it didn't open all the way. I put a doubled over o-ring on it and it has been secure ever since.

Re: Apple Watch Band

I use a cheapo silicone watch band with a rubber o-ring over the pin. The band is similar to the standard band. I used to have a velcro band but the velcro catches on the wetsuit fabric and peels open. The nylon stays wet and gets stained. I tried a Catalyst waterproof case. They say it's waterproof...

Re: OR Flite Self Launch Mishaps

If you have problems with bridle wrap: - rig with the bar downwind - pick up the bar and put a little tension on the lines, particularly the near side tip line. - walk around the radius until you're in launch position. The kite will slowly turn as you walk around. The bridles will be straight and no...

Re: Foiling with shoes

I foil with booties for most of the year. One issue is standing in a shore break. If I stand flat footed on the bottom, sand and shell grit splashes up and fills the boots. There is nothing more painful than getting a sharp shell fragment wedged between your toes. I would think that shoes would be v...

Re: is it that easy to splice my own lines, SK99 600kg or-

... Why bother making your own pigtails if they cost 15-20 bucks for a set of 4?! ... I've got a fair amount of 3mm dyneema. It takes not much time at all to custom make a set of pigtails. I enjoy doing that stuff. The dyneema usually costs nothing because it is left over from other projects. Even ...

Re: New SARLite Emergency Signalling Kit

A signalling kit is not a bad idea if you're going adventuring. I think it would be a pain to carry more junk just for a kiteboarding session. I wear an Apple Watch 3. I can use the SOS mode to call in search and rescue, call home if I am stuck somewhere, or use Apple Pay to buy a coffee or a snack....

Re: is it that easy to splice my own lines, SK99 600kg or-

It can be difficult or expensive to buy line in different colors if you want to color code left/right/front pigtails. I make mine in grey dyneema then wrap some colored ribbon around the pig tail and sew it into place. That works well. I also use it to finish the ends of depower lines to avoid frayi...

Re: whats in a Y!

A kite is designed with a specific angle on the Y or V to give it a specific shape. Arguably the tight angles on the high-Y lock in the shape better. If you use a low-V bar on a high-Y kite then the angle of the front lines is straighter. That can lead to the kite flattening out and the tips flaring...
